McSolar - that was a very fine workout yesterday. Don't peak too soon.

Several good workouts yesterday as well Opie, Rip, and others.

Taking the week off from running. Picked up a strain (I hope) from the half last Saturday. I think I ran in too light of shoe this time.

12 miles done before 7am this morning, we have ice again :¬( Joined by 2 different people who both did parts of the run I then had the last 2 miles on my own, strangely these were the quickest bits.

It is one of the kids I coach birthday and he is 17, last week he asked me if the squad could come to my house for pizza, of course I said yes.

1. I get pizza

2. and this is more important, it is great to have a group of athletes who want to spend social time together .

Before we get the pizza though they get an hour of "death circuits"

no ripping here. 8mi very easy at 9:30/mi pace.

coming down the bike path at me was the u arizona women's cross country team... flying at sub-6 pace. they must have turned around shortly thereafter and jogged, since only the lead runner chicked me. "oh, we were just doing a little fartlek" she said... must be nice to be 20 y/o. and 5-foot nothing, 95lbs. did pass the rest of the team after my second turn-around, and yes, they were all 5-foot nothing 95 lbs.

long run tomorrow, since proto-sun's xmas vacation starts tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for the kudos. I'm still jazzed about that race against myself. Personal leave to burn before the end of the year, so I'm going in for a massage this afternoon.

Tomwhite, they have scary clowns at the death circus. No, do not post that picture again! mcsolar, i'm sure there was no ogling involved, right?

Snork! Oh, yes - all 17 year olds benefit from SOME amount of "death circuits". Keeps them too tired to be rowdy, at least for a short while.

I ripped!!

I'm so thrilled - went out in the dark this morning, (52 F, no wind - nice!) to try the knee, and did 3.1 in 27:52 - a 9:00 pace! Fastest of the year!!! No pain!!! Until I stopped - then R knee clunked as soon as I started walking. So will get the MRI anyway, later today, but the New Year's Day Texas Marathon is ON!!!

{making note of how Mc really does slow down the pace of his easier runs} . . . sounds like getting chicked was really not all that bad.

I'm so happy to read of Ben's wonderful news. Thank goodness for brilliant brain surgeons and a whole team of great providers for him.

I'm currently reading that book about Matt Long - the FDNY firefighter who got run over by a bus and his rehab back. What an incredible story. and incredible man.

Will head out for a S.L.O.W. 5 miles or so during my lunch. Gotta save my legs for a tougher hill workout tomorrow.

Quick jump inside to warm up here by the fire. 5 miles in about 43:00 including a 9:00 warm up mile, so around 8:15 pace the rest of the way. I didn't do a cool down - I just wanted to get back inside after 40:00 in the cold. No real sunshine, 15 degrees and a 20 mph wind that was mostly a crosswind; I didn't think it was really 20 mph, except for some gusts that almost knocked me off of my feet.

I think tomorrow is mid-week medium long run day, so I hope it warms up a few degrees.

Hi all

9 miles in the woods in brand new shoes (Trabucos)........ got 'em all muddy too.

A belated thanks to Heme for posting your speedo picture last week. Your new avatar is hawt too....and speaking of hawt....great picture of Robin last week as well.....(how come my dermatologist is a 60yo bald dude??.....doesn't seem right )

Congrats on your fine half last weekend Lab

Best of all....fantastic news for the Econo family

Hey Opie....my oldest daughter tells me the M/IC Co. she works for is closing down some of their California operations and relocating to OK City. (I guess that's better than outsourcing to China). So sometime late next year they're going to move her & her family to your neck of the woods. She's a "little" more politically conservative than me, so I guess she'll fit right in.

ETA: Great picture TW....what a little cutie

Claire is adorable! What a pretty tea set. Have a cuppa to warm up, BTY.

Death Circus with clowns in budgie snugglers. What a vision. <shriek>

I can't run recovery runs that slowly, though I ain't under 5 ft nor anywhere close to 95 pounds and I'm not running 80++ mile weeks either.

Okay, yoga done. My feet feel mahvelous but a certain bind revealed a super tight right glute. Thankfully, didn't rip it.

Out to run now. Gleefully, thanks to Econo's post. Hi, Johnny! Nice mud.

Johnny, we'll have to get together here sometime when you come visit her. You guys can meet Paul and we'll talk politics until we're all blue in the face.

Laura, I forgot to mention how excited I am that you get to do that marathon. It's been too long since I've run in your neck of the woods. I hope to run a half in Dallas 3/27 so maybe I'll have a Spareribs sighting. I think there's a discount to register if the Cowboys win a game, which never happens any more.

Nice running John. Here's to mud on your shoes!

and Claire is adorable!

speaking of little girls - what do little 7 yr old girls like? Each year I get an envelope from the little community store in our "blink or you'll miss it town" - that has some of our local kids that wouldn't normally get any presents. This year I am buying for a 7 yr old girl. Says she likes barbies and reading and games. I got her a barbie. I'd like to get her a book or two but not sure what little girls this age like to read? Hoovie - suggestions?

Awwww, she's so sweet, TW!!!!

I'm still trying to get my head around "budgie smugglers", especially considering the Speedo run pictures I have lying around my office.

It's cccccccold here today, but gloriously sunny. Since I still have vacation time to use up before the end of the year, and I'd delayed getting to work to go for a mamogram check up, I decided to make it a full half day off and get a nice mid-day run in. 7.6 easy miles at ~-8°C, decidedly overdressed (go figure! ) Right side is a bit tight... time to get back to my RMT.

Watching the sun peek up over Mt. Deborah in the Alaska Range. Ahhh... love these cold clear days. We're closing in on solstice and looking forward to increasing daylight soon. We're at 3 hrs, 48 minutes today but with such leisurely sunrises and sunsets, it seems like more than that (really!).

Tamster, if she's anything like my nieces (7 and 9) she'd love anything to do with horses... My nieces are the easiest to shop for, IMO.

OK could use a little more blue-shades these days.

Ha SS... I'm farther from 5' and 95 lbs than you are. Can't imagine running like that. My DH says most runners look like 12 year olds anyway... but somehow I'm thinking mc didn't consider them quite that young.

Another RAW on the TM in store for me. I'd love to do 8 miles with some speedier half mile repeats, but not sure what I'll have time for.

Yes, it's a good day knowing Ben has such a good prognosis.

MC, at least they didn't say excuse me sir :D

I saw that book about Matt Long, they were offering signed copies at my not so local running store.

I am a wuss, opted to stay inside and use treadmill when I saw feels like 9° this morning. And working from home so also opting to not go out for any errands. Now if 5:15 would get here I can start on happy hour :D
