A friend of mine has really gotten into it within the past year. And I've made a few of my own cakes with her help. I'm making one this weekend for my sister's birthday - in the shape of her new house! If anyone is interested, I'll post pics when I'm done!

My mom and my granny are both wedding cake decorators. Not professional but have done many many of them. The ex-bf's mom is a professional. As in she teaches the people at the grocery stores how to decorate cakes and is also an instructor out in Vegas some where.

For Thanksgiving a couple of years ago she made us a cake that looked exactly like a turkey! With the crosshatching on the turkey and every thing. Stuffing carrots, littlle turkey legs with the white paper hats on it. God I miss her.

I do decorate cakes from time to time. I should make my daughter a cake soon. I took the Wilton cake decorating classes but would love to take a professional one at a culinary arts school- if I had a few thousand bucks to blow.

No kidding...I'm trying to get back into school for the summer semester, but I have nothing to do in the meantime! They'd probably let me get away with bringing cakes, if they could eat the results

I should probably go buy some yarn at lunch time.

It is a fun class. My kids loved eating my projects. I only completed two of the three levels. I should take the third level again and this time, complete it. That is the level where you decorate a multi-level wedding cake.
I always wanted to do a cake with a basket weave design on the sides and have flowers on the top, cascading down the side. Also have a fountain below, with the cake on pillars.
-Oh...I think I'll make one like that for May Day. Cream colored with pastel flowers.

I'm getting into it. I totally suck, though.

I signed up for a Wilton class, but it got cancelled. Hopefully I'll have a chance to take one soon. I'd love to have a little side business doing cakes.

I like this cake-very pretty-daisys. I would do a rose cascade (on the top) or a combination of flowers. Good example of the basketweave design.

My mom got pretty good at amateur cakery. She made quite a few wedding cakes for friends and family.

Once she made this multi-tiered wedding cake in our little home-oven. It took over the whole house! We were all covered in a layer of powdered sugar for a year afterwards.

Kimbro, love the cake in the link!
