I've never used anything 'Apple.' But I've never had a desire to. I've always heard all the hype, but the cost was prohibitive to me and it just didnt seem worth it to me. My windows computer worked just fine, not to mention there were more software options out there.

As far as phones go, I had a BB, now have an android. I like to tweak things and customize. You cant do that with apple stuff. I have to say, I LOVE my Droid X. Its fun, I can change things up to my hearts desire, complicate it, or make it simple. Its fast, varied and reliable. Thats not to say that at times I havent wished it were an iphone, but thats only when I have screwed something up and need to figure out how to fix it.

As far as the phones go...there are tons of apps for the iphone, but I love the developer community for the android phones. Android is catching up fast.

Apple certainly has its strengths, but I think most of it its marketing is hype and I just dont buy it. I too, have heard LOTS of people saying they have had problems with apple products. I have to wonder if in the recent past they have taken advantage of their reputation to slack a bit on quality of their products. At least thats how it seems to me.

With regard to the software options. I, as a Windows guy, used to use that argument. Then an Apple Head friend of mine (hey, some of my best friends use Apples) said, so, there's 100,000 titles for Windows and maybe 10,000 for Apple. Isn't 10,000 enough? I sorta think he was right.

Like I mentioned before, I have a BB, and, it's "ok", but, nothing to write home about. Never used an Android, woudl like to try. An iPhone...well, playing with the one I just got my wife and daughter...the experience is supposed to be so "amazing". Well, I'm underwhelmed. I'm not saying it's bad, and I'm not saying I would never buy one, but, I'm not "wowed" by it. At all.

Those who are not "tech savvy" might be interested to know about the app business. There are definitely pros and cons on both sides. For Android...anyone can make an app and publish it (within reason). But, for Apple, well, it's a bit different. You make an app, and the Apple people test the hell out of it, and, quite possibly, reject it. What does this mean? Well, for one thing, it means that the app will work. But, there have been allegations that the Apple folks have rejected apps that are similar to apps that Apple is planning on releasing later on. For example, there was a Wifi sync app (which Microsoft already had on their machines, by the way) that some guy wrote. it got rejected for some reason. Then, a few months later, Apple came out with a Wifi sync app. Coincidence? maybe. Apple is a "closed system". It is a big debate in the tech world.

On the other hand, you have more diversity for Android, but, you can get an app that you've paid for, and it sucks, and doesn't work all the time, or, maybe, doesn't work at all. That doesn't usually happen with Apple stuff.

Does Apple take advantage of their past successes? Of course. Every company does. Does Apple stuff suck? No, of course not. Is Apple stuff better than other stuff? Well, that one is up for interpretation. If you're going by price? Well, is "you get what you pay for" a good argument? I don't think so. That's my opinion. If it were $50 more expensive, then yes. But, twice as more? No. Because it will eventually break anyway. Is, "it looks cool" a good argument? No. Is, "everyone else has one and it's the 'in' thing" a good argument? No.

What is a good argument, in my opinion is, "it works".

But, I don't think that they work any better than any other device.

Hey, my wife and kids all have Apple products. That's fine. That's what they want.

I'm sticking with whatever is good for me. And, at the moment, I have Zune, and a PC. I don't have a smartphone, so, that's not an issue. (except for the BB, that's for work, and, I gotta say, I would NOT buy one if it were for me alone)
