Sorry, my brain doesn't work this early. Up earlier than normal so I can get Moonie to the airport on time. I'll be seeing him again in 3.5 weeks (yes, that's all you have left before Christmas) and that time, there will be no goodbye at the airport.

Good morning, Bard!

Bummer that Moonie goes away today, but at least this is (/insert opening musical theme) the final countdown! :)

I personally will be glad when the next 3.5 weeks (actually 4.5 weeks) are over. Work is a beast at this time of the year anyway, but due to some new programs launching at our busiest time of the year (/grumble) things are even more crazy. By Jan 1, things will settle down for the most part. C'moooon January!

Oh yeah.. running. I got 5M on the TM last night. Calf muscles are not at all happy with me, but they'll have to get used to being worked again. I suspect that even on weekends, I'm going to be on the TM for a while. Part of me is scared to death to go out on the roads again. (fear of re-spraining the ankle and then figuring out how to get back to the car.)

Hope you guys all have an excellent day!

PS - Oskar is a cutie, Kath. Seems so odd to see pics of him now, and know that before long, he'll be big enough to scare the (#)#$# out of door to door salesmen that come your way!

Morning Ail and bOb. I got up early, but got sucked into updating a couple of web sites. It doesn't help that it is pitch black and I can hear the winds whipping out there. Being that I am still sitting at the computer sipping coffee, I am only going to get about 3 miles in. That is okay though. I switched things around a bit and am not starting my official training until next week. More on that later....

I was kind of grumpy yesterday over a variety of things, but then I just kept seeing random people doing really nice things. For example, James is doing a big presentation for his class next week. Of all things he picked hot dogs as his topic. We were researching around and found a distant relative has a hot dog chain in Michigan (National Coney Island). Contacted them and they are sending him a bunch of stuff to use (t-shirt, hat, menus, etc.). I was also seeking silent auction items for an upcoming GOTR fundraiser. Everyone I contacted was whole heartedly willing to donate something - even if they couldn't get their co. to do it, they'd do it personally. Very cool.

GoV - nice to see you in here and great story. I hope you have fun reconnecting.

Duck - too bad re America the Beautiful. I'm sure Mila will find something equally great soon.

So sounds like a bunch of us are in for a challenge. Let's do this!

There was a bunch of other stuff but I forgot and I NEED to get my butt outside.

Morning

well, the retest went ok. I was down almost 6 lbs and lost 0.5 inch on my waist and 1.5 inches (if I remember correctly) on the ol' hips. I was able to do way more sit ups (granted the first time I was trying to do them perfect form not fast), I increased my sit n reach but 5 inches, my strength by 5 lbs and my cardio was the same. However, the body fat thingy had me at no loss there. bahhh.... Going to the taping later on to find out who won....being I didn't drop any 'fat', it won't be me.

Running at the dome tonight - should be about 10 miles or so. 6-8 mile progression run with the middle ones being at GRP (not mine though)

Good Morning

Missy - I made coffee with my new Keurig this morning too. It was the first thing I set up in my new kitchen! Extra bold with gingerbread creamer...mmm mmm.

GoV - I love the story about your "little". So glad you were able to connect with him again.

Bard/Moon - this is so exciting! Mazel tov!

Brandy - Nice work!

Only 3.5 weeks? I'd better get my rear in gear. But I will confess, now that our kids know about Christmas, it really takes some pressure off. They have been very thoughtful with their wish lists understanding that it comes out of our pockets and not from the North Pole. I'm looking forward to a low-key low-stress holiday!

I can't tell you how much we are looking forward to that. Politicians too.

And... with the size Oskar is now, & remembering how Gus doubled in size within a 2 week period (he was 12lbs when we got him at 8 weeks, and 24 lbs at 10 weeks), I think Oskar is going to be rather large.

Brandy, did the same person measure your body fat in the same way as the pre-test? Two different people can measure you very differently... Make sure the same person does it to get the most accurate results. (I'm assuming you did a simple body caliper test.)

Hi all. Another good swim this morning, which was tough b/c I did 55 pushups and 55 dips in class yesterday. Oof. And then I went to one of our schools this morning and got sucked into a pushup challenge with the (male) assistant principal -- in front of 20 seventh grade boys! Try as I might, I couldn't outlast him. hahaha

Morning, all. I'm all smiley for bard & moon, sending calming vibes for ailarie, tickled by the generosity of RIL's community, praying for a change of personality for missy's ILs, rooting for a brandy win, and hoping that all the rest of you are having great days.

String ensemble practice tonight to prepare for our concert at a nursing home tomorrow night. We're playing a mix of music, but I selected a death march to add to the mix. Maybe that wasn't so good, but it's a cool piece. Later tonight, I have a very important phone call.

Too much to do today. I'll be back later to procrastinate!

Ran 3 easy miles. Well, they weren't easy with the crazy gusty wind, nor the huge hill I tackled, but you get my drift.

I just got super stabby with someone. He totally deserved it, but usually I bite my tongue and take the high road. Sometimes people are such blatant doucecanoes though that it is worth it.

Brandy - don't count yourself out of the running. Is the "win" for whoever has the biggest numbers for losses, or whoever gets in the best shape? There is a big difference. And it seems if you made those strides despite the great shape you already were in, you should be ahead of someone who had technically better numbers but still has a much longer way to go to get to your fitness level.

Prae - have fun at strings tonight. I always wished I could play an instrument. But I totally cannot.

QOD: yes x 3? Why? Just asking b/c that is kind of an unusual question.

morning peeps.

Went to personal training last night. Dale is trying to kill me, apparently. I could barely drive home! Eeks. Once I ate something, I felt a little better last night, but I couldn't even take a shower...I was that beat. We did stuff with two different weight balls, overhead lifts (with 12# barbells) on one leg, leg climbs, tons of other ab and core work, frog hops, walking lunge-y things, and other stuff. I don't really know what anything is called, just but it sums up to slow death by exercise. Heh.

Walking at lunch with a coworker today. Probably 3 mi or so.

I <3 Oskar. :)

Moonie and Bard, I am so very happy for you both!!!! I don't get to see A all that much, usually about once a week, so i really can't imagine being long distance like you've been!

Good luck with your ILs Missy!

Prae, I am impressed you are keeping up with your cello lessons and performing. I was talking to a coworker today who plays guitar (keeps one in his office even) and he told me anytime I want some help, he'd be happy to work with me. But I really need to take some real lesson to learn the basics. I know nothing about how to play it yet!

Duck, sorry that your daughter didn't get the opportunity to sing.

KP, how's the leg? Cast off yday?

Hugs to everyone else...I'm forgetting lots of people!

QOD a: nope, hate it. Hate that I do so much of it now especially.

QOD b: I'm ok. I don't enjoy it, so I drive fast to get it over with. I also have a hard time seeing at night now (I'm really blinded by headlights), so I've very tense much of the time.

QOD c: I dunno. I have a lot of friends who don't have cars, so I drive them alot and get no complaints. No one's hitting the invisible brake so that's something, I guess!

It was a little device we held...I can't remember the name of it but they pop in your age, weight and gender and it sends some kind of impulse thru to determine. It isn't like the number is BAD but I would have assumed it would have dropped somewhat....just learned that it has a margin of error of +-3% so whatev

The contest was based on most improved fitness score which is comprised of 1 to 8 scores on

Body comp - the test above

Heart health - a hr test on the treadmill

flexibility - old school sit and reach

muscle strength - bench press machine

muscle endurance - sit ups (wtf)

any who - I didn't win but the person I thought should have won did so I am happy - although I am a bit annoyed since that machine thing has 2 settings (athlete and normal). I was originally tested and retested on normal. Person who won was retested at athlete level because it was showing an increase on normal (which isn't right - she lost 24 lbs).

Morning all! I was entirely way too wiped out this morning to do anything; weak sauce! And I'm meeting up with a friend tonight for a free cocktails & dining event b/c she's a food blogger, guess it'll be my rest day.

Mindi – we all have our days, I’m glad yours was turned around seeing the kindness in others

Missy – serenity now, serenity now. Doughnut Plant this week?

Great stuff, GoV!

Congrats Brandy!!

QODa: do you enjoy driving? I enjoy driving on the highway way more than city driving, although in Manhattan I appreciate the challenge and opportunities to show off my mad parallel parking skillz

QODb: do you think you're a good driver? I think I'm an aggressive albeit safe driver

QODc: do other people think you're a good driver? Most believe I brake too late, which is absolutely true. But I'm pretty safe

QODa: I'm not a big fan of the daily commute. I would be happier if I could take a bus or train to work (as long as it didn't take much longer) so that I could do something else (read, sleep, etc) as opposed to paying attention to traffic. But I do love to road trip. This is one reason I flew into Memphis for my marathon in Little Rock, for example. It gives me an excuse to see parts of the country I wouldn't otherwise see.

QODb: I suppose. Of course, I've read that something like 95% of all drivers consider themselves to be "above average" drivers, so we all gotta take everybody's answers with a grain of salt.

QODc: I really don't know. I haven't heard any critiques of my driving. My wife always makes me drive, if that means anything. And I've done a bunch of long road trips with some buddies who don't seem to mind when I drive...

boB - what's your thoughts on Urban Meyer to OSU. There's lots of different speculation on what the real circumstances were regarding his leaving Florida.

Meh. Some Florida fans are pissed as hell at Meyer. I'm not going that far. I'm a little disappointed that he quit on us. Twice! But he did win two championships for the school, so I won't completely throw him under the bus. Plus, I fully expected that he would coach again. Guys at the top of their game don't just retire at age 46 for good. I thought he would take at least two years off, but I'm not shocked that it's only one. Also, I assumed that the two most logical places for him to end up would be Ohio St or Notre Dame. They are both high profile jobs (and thus wouldn't be a big step down from UF), and he has personal ties to both places. Six months ago, I would have thought ND would be more likely because Jim Tressel seemed entrenched at OSU. But once he got forced out, OSU instantly became the top candidate. So I'm not surprised at all...

As for the "real circumstances"... Some of the speculation I'm hearing is that Meyer learned the hard way last year that the rest of the SEC finally caught up to the speed of his spread offense scheme. (And the personnel he recruited is still paying for it big time this year). He quit becuase he realized he could no longer win in the SEC with his type of team. But now he's going to the Big Ten, which has a reputation of being bigger but slower. So his speed game might still work there. For a while at least. Actually, I bet he'll do pretty well there pretty quickly. But if his OSU team meets an LSU- or Alabama-type of team in a BCS game, they'd better watch out...

UF's crappy year has some fans calling for Coach Boom's head already. The year has certainly been disappointing. But Boom and Weis need some more time to restock the squad with their type of players. I'm willing to be a little patient. But 6-6 better not happen again...

QODa: do you enjoy driving? Generally yes, except in nasty road conditions or gridlock.
QODb: do you think you're a good driver? Mostly. I have my little bad habits as everyone does, but generally they are not ones that seriously compromise anyone's safety. My mom and brother-in-law are both former paramedics, I've heard too many stories. In 20 years of driving, I've had only one minor at-fault accident and 2 speeding tickets.
QODc: do other people think you're a good driver? Yes?
