Infrasound and my new office...
<p>So we moved in to our new digs today (unfinished and under furnished but that's another story). I was the first one in this morning at 6:30 and noticed a droning whining sound that seemed to me like it was tossing harmonics at higher and lower keys. </p>

<p>As I sat at my desk going through emails and avoiding unpacking I began to feel very uneasy, antsy, anxious, spooked out. The first employee came in about an hour later and he commented on the sound. Within minutes he told me that he was feeling sick.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>At any rate it was a very odd morning. One worker arrived at 8 or so to fix the temperature gauges and we mentioned the noise. He came over and pinpointed the sound as coming from a ventilation opening beside my window. (I have a hearing aid and can't exactly triangulate sound with the new device yet). He placed a heavy binder on the sill and the sound went away but we could see that the binder was shaking at a slow rate. He told us that he'd get someone to take a look at the vent and then he left.</p>

While the sound was gone we still felt very uncomfortable. The new digs are bright, windows on the south and east, lots of natural light, lots of artificial light... but we felt oppressed and I began to feel phsically ill. </p>

<p>I felt better when I left at 8:30 for a meeting, but dreaded returning to the new digs.</p>

<p>When I did it was just in time to see a building maintenance worker leaning over the sill and looking into the vent. He turned with a smile and said, "I know what your problem is!" He then slipped two small clips into the opening and not only did the noise stop but the binder stopped shaking. He mentioned that the sound was a common occurrence and that the building had milled these clips to stop the sound and "vibrations". </p>

<p>We felt better almost immediately. It was night and day.</p>
