New England MSers…or anyone else that wants to travel to SE New England this summer for a race…here’s a heads up for an inaugural tri being hosted by the Navy base here in Newport, RI. I’ve been bugging them for years to do it because we have an awesome natural venue. They finally gave in. I was told yesterday that they’ve set a date, Sunday, August 3rd, and they’ve hired a race production and timing company. Although part of the course my go onto the actual base, I’m told that it (the race) is being open to the public. The general parameters of the course will be sprint distances in the neighborhood of one-third of a mile, 16 miles, and 3.5 miles. The links below show a general idea of the course(s). The bike route is likely to be two loops. The swim will be in the calm waters of Coddington Cove in Narragansett Bay in the shadow of retired aircraft carriers USS Forrestal and USS Saratoga.
excellent, thank you. might surprise my husband with that one (I get to do danskin by myself the week before that, so I'll be up one in the race department). I'm guessing there's no website yet?

Sounds fun!
I lived there when my dad was at the Naval War College....we moved in one summer when the America's Cup was held there. The boxes were all over the house, and we were up on "the hill" watching these massive ships sailing around.
AWESOME.

Sounds like a fun race.

No website yet. Actually I was just told that the race hasn’t been “officially” announced yet. Nevertheless, Sun Multisport has been hired for the production and timing. It will be USAT sanctioned and fees will be comparable to other races. Obviously active duty military get a significant discount. And, there will be discounts for retired military (me), DoD civilian employees, and military family member dependants.
