10 miles flirting with the moon and clouds this morning. 1:20 exactly. 5 mi warmup; 4 X .5 mile repeats with .5 recoveries. Goal 3:00 per .5 but ran by feel only. 3:13, 15, 14, 10. Close enough.

Hi all

Good luck to the Boston runners (not sure when it started, maybe they're finished by now)

Nice runnin' Baba

Welcome back TW

Enjoy the cutback & taper weeks Ks

Decided to test the foot today Heme.....Planned to ease back in with 30 minutes of run / walk (mostly walk). Started out that way, but towards the end it was mostly run, well slow jog I mean. I did though, stop and walk through every rocky area......one hour later, no ill effects..........YET. I've missed 11 days, so IF, i'm able to continue, I'll be conservative (not really in my vocabulary) and try to take a month to get back to where I was at 30-35 MPW. That'll still give me almost 2 months to ramp up for the upcoming 50K. If not, ..... I'll reassess.....2.35 miles, 30 minutes, 50K pace.

Good running to all.

good news on foot John! yes, try that conservative route . . . and don't be afraid, it's not like it'll make you "a conservative"

yes, Boston is done for some folks already. plus there was a new course record by a kenyan - 2:03:02 I think?

I'm tracking a few folks, including my friend from HS - who is running probably his slowest marathon in his lifetime due to AT problems he's had for the last few mos. He said this will likely be his last Boston so since he knows he's going to be hurting if he ran too fast, he was just going to enjoy Boston and crowds. He's due to come in around 3:54, about a hour slower than normal.

Oops, I saw that Erika had called me out the other day. I hadn't posted since this place had been reformatted. Months ago. Almost forgot my password, but somehow it came back.

Congrats to the Boston runners! A woman I'm coaching ran 3:03 for a PR!

Umm back to Saturday's race, nice seeing you Erika, we've seen you a lot out training this spring/winter and as always looking fit.

This was a bit of a comeback for me. First race since June. I have stage 2 osteoarthritis in my knee, after a fracture and severe meltdown at NYC Marathon in 2009/followed by relapse last summer (although less severe). I've balanced nordic skiing and running for most of my adult life, but going to have to shift that more to skiing.

Anyway, just been back at it for a few easy weeks (25 mpw at 8:30 pace is pretty easy).

Felt both good and awful on Saturday. As E said, weather was perfect. Lined up on front row not seeing many of the usual local suspects, and thinking hmm maybe top 5 today? Then everybody and their brother and sister blasted out of the start like a snot rocket on a cold day and I was no better than 25 or 30th at the base of the big hill (2 min into the race). Worked my way up, and was in top 10 by the top (skiing really helps for hill climbing). Two young bucks passed me in mile 2 and 3; other than that I held on sort of in oxygen debt, but trying to keep it going. No speedwork = no turnover.

17:53 for 8th place, 1st in AG and 1st masters too.

Really excited to see my wife, a former elite runner who has had had MS for 20 years (some of them rough) run 24:06 looking comfortable.

Hey Wilson! I think I saw your wife running on the Loop just past Grenac yesterday! She was looking good, I do think that was her. My vision isn't the best after 14+ miles of hills so wasn't sure. Good to see she ran on Saturday!

Another Boston marathon in the books. This one was fast! Holy cow... still shaking my head at some of those top times.

Easy day at the gym today at lunch. DH and I are both tired. I'll probably run some easy muddy miles after work; just too nice to not go out!

Congrats to all the Boston finishers!!

Nice to see you back running Wilson. It really doesn't take that much running to stay fast for a 5k if you hit the xtraining hard.

My left foot and right knee are hurting a little so I quit at an hour again today. Most of the run just never felt right as I got a new pair of shoes and they are really soft. I also seemed not be able to keep a steady pace on the treadmill as I would drift back and have to speed up. I finally sped the pace up a little the last 20 minutes and it seemed better. 7.23 miles

A quick report in from Boston.

I was right on pace until mile 16. Going up the first Newton hill, calf cramp that I had to stop and massage. Got going again and made it halfway up the second Newton hill and it came back. Stopped and massaged again. I then was able to run up Heartbreak hill, where it came back again. I was toast at that point, I walked/jogged and enjoyed the experience until about mile 23 where it cramped severely. Stopped and massaged again, even had doubts about whether I could finish. I walked until we turned onto Boylston where I "ran" to the finish. But I ran Boston!!! So, all is fantastic.

In hindsight, I think I'm probably not ready for a 3:30 marathon and ran too aggressive in the first 16 miles. But until that first Newton hill, I was right on pace.

I'll write up a full RR when I get back.

Paul, don't forget to get a deep tissue massage in a couple of days! I was a little concerned when I saw your times dropping but it sounds like you handled the situation well.

Someday I'll run the Vancouver Marathon again to get revenge on that nasty calf cramp there.

Good going Paul! Sorry the cramp took the luster off the day.

Nice to see you Wilson. That's a very speedy 5K for the both of you.... congrats.

7 mile easy RAW, that would have felt pretty good, if not for some unexpected GI issues.
