For those not famliar with LP bike course, the three segments are as follows:

1 - FAST... part that leaves town with a few shorter hills on the ups but two noticable downs, one that is 5K worth.

2 - AVG... this is the middle part of the loop and has many long flatter stretches and some rollers. This can be very fast if the wind is in the right direction.

3 - SLOW... this is the long ascent back into town.

Two loops of the above. Typically you have a fast split through 1, maintain it through 2, and then give back lots in 3 due to the slowness of the climbing.

There aren't really rollers on this course because most hills totally bog you down, robbed of momentum. So in general, it can be a slow course. But Mike has the goods to make it fair. You need to be able to hold a fairly high cadence in a very low gear to stay in control and on "top of the pedals" on the ups, especially the last one back up into town. Do that and he'll do well.

The marathon is a tough course. Even standalone, if it were, it is challenging and on the slow side due to all the long hills.
