I know its early, but ...

IMOoo books up most of the hotel rooms in Madison for the race and you have to sign up through them. IMLP doesn't appear to have the same setup, it looks like you book rooms individually with the hotel. Is that correct?\

Assuming it does, anyone have suggestions on where to stay? Do you need to book a hotel room early (like right now)?

Thanks,

you may be able to avoid some of the price gouging by searing for hotels in the outlying communities of jay, upper jay, wilmington and keene valley. Placid and Saranac Lake both have a bajillion hotels and they raise the rates sky high. There are also condo rentals. Most of the hotels are mom and pops so you have to google up a list.

We have stayed in the winter at a place called Prague motor inn. It's a four sqare dump but the rooms are roomy and feature kitchens and sometimes hottubs. It's right in town. Big hotels on the strip are golden arrow and the hilton, they are pricey.

There is camping at adirondak loj, and a campground right on the course near whiteface at the state DEC campground

Tupper Lake is about 30 minutes and you will be far enough away to get a normal price. Anything closer and the price is double. There are always a few people staying Tupper Lake.

Adam, Monica and I just stayed a week at the Wildwood Motel right on Saranac Ave. It had one bedroom, a sitting area and a kitchenette. Motel had pool, lake water pool and hot tub. Was not fancy, but was very clean and I would stay there again. I think they booked it back in early January. All of their cottages are already booked for 2011, however, we asked before we left.

I'm sure they'll get back to you with more info/suggestions.

I too stayed at Wildwood. Would stay there again. Price was right, too. Though to be honest, next time I wouldn't worry about cost as much and instead I would try to get a place as close to or on the main strip. Then you can walk everywhere. Better for you and family.

Hey Mike,

I think Monica and I are considering a trip up there again next year, although I may take a weekend out to CdA to volunteer and chear on on, and maybe sign-up for 2012, but we might be interested in going in on a condo or something. The biggest issue up there is there is almost always a 5 night minimum.

Yes you should book no, many places fill up the Mon after the race. Although a few hotels in LP won't take reservations until Jan. I 3rd the Wildwood recommendation if you want to save some money and still stay in LP you can't beat the value.
