Hmmmm, facts.

Lets see, joined the Air Force, commissioned in February, been in training for my job since then. I've got about a month left until I earn my cyber wings and head off to my first assignment (RAF Lakenheath!). Thats about it for me. I've been in a military training environment of some sort for 11 months straight now so I haven't done much else. Now we just have to jump through all the hoops to get to England and see how that goes. Its exciting....and exhausting!

I could write a book on that subject and still not come to a conclusion I think. I love some parts. I loathe other parts. I've met some of the most amazing people. I've met some of the most despicable people. I think its hard for me to make a sound judgement at this time given that I've been in nothing but training environments thus far. I'll get to see the "real" AF soon enough and find out what the differences are.

My squadron commander at OTS was probably the most amazing person I've ever met. He has more energy than I though possible. He is relentlessly positive without coming off as fake, naieve or deluded (and I tend to distrust positive people...I'm negative by nature). He is inspiring. He has shown over and over that he cares about everyone that comes through his charge both while we are there and after. He just exudes this remarkable energy that I've never encountered before. We would often do early morning (around 0430) runs at OTS and we would be outside in the cold and dark stretching failing to shake the fatigue of day after day of training and the OTS grind when we would hear him walking up, "GOOOOOOD MORNING MY TIGERS!!!". At first, his energy was kind of funny, but as we got to know him and what he stood for and who he was, that call just snapped us out of any problems we were having and we were ready to go. I'm pretty sure if he trained me, I would break every PR I've got. He makes me want to be better and he sets the example in everything he does. I can't even do him justice in words, really.

As for despicable, well, theres the married guy in my training class who has been spending every night for the past two months over at a single female officers place. I can't say for sure hes cheating on his wife, but they certainly act like a couple when we all go out. Its disgusting and he made a huge deal about how he needed a joint-spouse assignment so he could be with his wife (who is also a Lt). He is a pathological liar to boot.

Those are the two extremes, but there are others who come close to both of the people I've talked about here.
