Sheldon has me doing a 3500 KM swim. Do you think I should try that before or after school?

After school. You want to be able to pace yourself and not have to worry about getting to class. That's why I wait until after work to do my 3800 mi runs.

Nah, Tithers - save your money. It's a well established fact that coaches cannot count. You don't want to send yourself broke and still have to do 3800km swims!!

AMEN TO THAT!!! Chip is my swim coach. He's a great guy. However... we joke about "Chip timing" vs "real timing". It's a 30min session, from 6:30-7:00. How come we're never done until 7:30?

As far as his counting... He'll have me do 5x50 on the 15's. I'm counting down, thinking I'm on the last one. Nope! Hmm I must have miscounted. No. He just has me doing 'em til I can't do 'em any more.

4BM....

Ann is my swim coach. SHE counts great. I count terribly.

So, she knows to tell me stuff in little bits, and make me repeat it. Sometimes, I get pool toys to use as counters.

A few weeks ago....
she said..... 500 for time.
ok, I think. I go great...swim hard and get a decent time, although I think I might have miscounted.
THEN, she says...... ok, do it again.
oooooooooooooo k. I think. I vow to keep better count. Still do well, close to my previous time.... etc.
Then, I'm getting my drink..... huffing and puffing.....
Ok, she says....put your fins on.
I'm thinking it's time for zoom zoom......
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ANOTHER 500.
(*sigh*).
She knew that I'd get all freaky and whiny if she'd said something about the whole set all at once...so she broke it up.

lol
It was a fun morning.

Stitch, you need to get a lap counting ring by sportcount. It keeps track of your laps, your total time and the time for each of your first 56 laps. You just use your thumb to touch a button on your forefinger.

You know what would be cool? A sonar-based device that you could attach with a suction-cup on the lane wall, and that you don't have to push, it would just figure out when you come to finish your lap. Also, it would detect your breaks, so it only times the actual swimming time. So you just do your workout and at the end you know all the splits, breaks, etc.
