does it seem elitist to you? it does to me. the powers that be created a system that enables them to pick the candidate just in case you get it wrong. your vote counts, but only if you vote the "right way." the SD's are for the most part, if not entirely, professional politicians, so naturally they're much smarter than you or i and a system is needed to protect us from our own stupidity.

i'm an independent and cannot vote in my states primary. but i will say this i just another reason not to register with a party, especially the dems.

I think you are overreacting. Super Delegates are a part of the process. However, in this year's Democratic Party Convention it doesn't appear the Super D's will be making a difference in who the nominee will be.

Even if Hillary got every one of the Super D's she will almost certainly not be able to catch Obama at this point.

I don't think that's true - she's about 142 delegates behind right now, favored to win in PA (the largest state left) and likely to win a few more states, but will likely see her deficit widen slightly between now and the convention. However, there are over 300 unpledged superdelegates right now. If they all go to Hillary, then she takes the nomination.

I wouldn't expect her to go down without a fight.

The process is what it is and its far too late to change it for this election. However, to me it smacks of elitism and not trusting the electorate to do the right thing. I don't think thats necessarilly a bad thing, but it depends on what you think the party's job is.

Is it their job to let the will of the people decide who runs as the Dem candidate?

Is it their job to pick the best candidate with some input from the people?

The same thing could be asked of the Repubs...what is their duty as a political party...should they do the will of the people or should they ultimately pick the candidate themselves with some input from the people?
