...I'm on the phone to Bill Cowher right now.

Jerry...I need you Bill, you name it, you got it. What would it take Bill to get in Dallas? Whatever it takes you got.

I like Dallas right where they are. Perhaps Jones should rehire Chan Gailey.

Every time I even giggle about the 'boys, my team does even worse. But, as much as I totally agree with GaReb, hiring Cowher would make this season suddenly much more interesting.

Chan's team is close every week so overall I'm guessing it would be a huge improvement.

Dallas just isn't very good and no one buys the BS mystique of "America's Team" anymore. Bill Cowher would help, but unless the GM gets fired by the owner then they will be nothing but a mediocre team...and I'm guessing the GM has the owner in his hip pocket.

I personally think they should disband the Dallas Cowboys and the Jacksonville Jaguars and have a draft if anyone wants any of their players.

I feel nothing but glee with any bad news about the Cowboys. Arrogant son-of-bitches. I hope their stadium falls down too....as long as nobody's in it at the time. Who builds a stadium to go watch the game on an 80 yard screen? Dumbass...but it is Texas.

The Cowboys may have some trouble getting one of the big names that people are talking about: Cowher, Gruden, Billick...

Jerry Jones is a meddler, and I don't know if any of those guys really want to deal with a meddling owner at this point in their lives.

Then again, enough $ could make anyone put up with just about anything. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out...

Cowher would make things interesting for sure, but it wouldn't help this season, unless he's got some magic powers that would turn Jon Kitna into the second coming of Roger Staubach (or heck even Tony Romo lite)

If he could pull it off, it would increase viewers, which would in turn increase revenue, which is the bottom line for Mr Jones. There are a lot of Cowher fans out there who would start to tune in.

Then again, Cowher seems the type that would despise the 3-ring circus atmosphere that constantly surrounds the 'boys. He is a strong coach, but Mr Jones would have to back off in order for him to be completely effective.

Chucky's already been through that; we saw how well it worked out for everyone involved [Gruden won a Super Bowl, and Al Davis slid further into psychopathy]

Cowher to Dallas does make some sense, as he is a hard nosed, in your face, tough SOB coach, and that's what they need right now.

No hurry to hire a coach right now, though.

Lockout is very likely for next year, which means.... no hurry to hire a coach until this is settled.

from airehead's link:

"Firing the coach, hiring a new coach, players wanting to be traded, Romo's toughness questioned in the locker room—there are going to be some amazing meltdowns coming, mark my words," said lifelong Dallas resident Stephen Lowndes, who has been steeped in Cowboys lore all his life without being asked if that was what he wanted. "Plus, they're about due for a major drug incident, or maybe a strip-club brawl or something, just to make the season perfect. And months down the road, long after they miss the playoffs, they get to screw up the draft. Really, you have to grow up getting this team rammed down your throat every single fucking minute of every single goddamn day of your life to appreciate how much I'm loving this."

"Seriously, best season ever," Lowndes added. "How 'bout them Cowboys!"

Jerry Jones is the Al Davis of the NFC, but with more money and dresses better. Cowher won't work for him under those conditions. Chucky is his best bet because he's been in that environment before under Davis. He knows where the pitfalls are and therefore Jones needs Gruden more than Gruden needs Jones.

He might want to pre-empt Minnesota and hire this guy, the next Bud Grant. What he doesn't want is another Marv Levy.

Huh??

You mean the Marv Levy who had a .651 winning percentage in Buffalo?

The one who took them to the playoffs 8/12 years?

The one who won the AFC Championship 4 times in a row?

The one in the pro football Hall of Fame?

Yeah it sure would suck for the Cowboys to have someone like that since in the past 15 years they have played in ONE Superbowl.

BTW Bud Grant was an excellent coach too who took the Vikings to 4 NFC Championships...with 0 wins, same as Levy. Superbowl IV was one where the vastly superior Vikings were smote by the KC Chiefs and that was tough for Grant to live down for a few years. Outsmarted by Hank Stram is how it was seen.

Actually, I'm not sure Jerry might be able to afford an expensive coach at this point, based on this:

Jerry Jones can afford it. He can't go with some college coach or some cordinator wanting to be a head coach. He 'Must" hire a known leader who has proven he can win the NFL. That's if he plans on bringing the Cowboys back to where thy have been.

That was Woody Hayes' mantra....and it's kind of funny because three things can happen when you run the football and two of them are bad too, but no one seems to mention that.

I hope they get Cowher (I've been hoping this for a while). But I doubt I get that lucky.

It's been a brutal bunch of years as a Cowboy and Bronco fan, I can tell ya that.
