Ice Age Trail 50M

I just finished my first ultra a 60K at Land Between the Lakes on March 8th. I had a blast. The most fun that I have ever had running....six inches of snow and 37 miles and a sense of accomplishment.

A friend of mine that ran with me wants to run the Ice age trail 50 miler in May. Has anyone run this race? Tell me about it? How is the course? Is it too soon to run another ultra? I am still in recovery mode now

Thanks

Yeah - Just me and the voices in my head -

I am the wierd guy - It was 20-30 MPH winds and low 30s, so I opted for the comfort of the TM -

I also ran Boston on Monday, so the soft even surface played a part in the decision
I ran on the IAT course for the first time on Saturday...did the north section from Nordic to Emma Carlin and back, plus a loop of the Nordic, for about 26M total. It was pretty much what I expected, but the unrelenting hills really wore me down. I still have no idea how I'm going to run 50M. I guess that's a pretty good reason to give it a try, right?
For me its all about being conservative enough on the pace - Walk ups, slow on downs and hit the flats. Having a little company to pass the time sure helps.

I did Glacial 50M 2006 and it took about 20 miles to get in a groove. I hled the groove to the end, but my quads were unhappy from 35 to the end.

Maybe the call of beer at the finish will help pull you in
Good luck this weekend!!

I will be thinking about you when I am at work... Hopefully I am not too grumpy that day
I posted my race report under "The Finish Line - Run & Race Reports"

I turned out to be an awesome day to run a race - I was suprised at how many sections were runable - So many aide stations - Crossing people at the few roads we crossed. Beautiful trails - lots of twists, turns and variations. If you want a great 50M - Consider Ice Age.
