You could regsiter in tris as a "first timer" up to 3 times.
The person who told me wasn't 100% sure this was true....
so, I'm checking it out.

Does anyone know for sure what the rule is for this?

If you start beating the kids, then it's time to get out of the tri-a-tri scene. There was a guy in our area recently who did a bunch of tri-a-tris, and he'd destroy people. His celebrations at the end made him look like tool! I've never seen a "first-timer" entry, but it's probably the same thing. You'll feel ready to get out of the category when it's the right time. Just don't fist-pump as you're crossing the line, having outsprinted a 12 year old!

Well.....I wasn't planning on knocking over kids in strollers! lol

But, my first first one is a sprint, so would it be kosher if I move up in distance to do a first time at that distance?

Good question. Depends on how you feel about your first race, and whether you think anyone else will care. If there are no prizes, or anything like that, and all you get is a calmer start, then I'd say use that as long as you feel you need it. No sense to rush. Can you evaluate after your first race, or do you have to register now for both?

PS. Getting anymore use out of your flippers-snow-scrapper?

I think the "first timer" for my first race is for time comparison/placing only...not for the start. Not sure, though. THey also have a fat tire division, but I chose first timer instead.

No, my southern ice scrapers are back to being swim fins.
That was truly a crappy day, though. I see all the mentions on here about the mountains of snow...and I just keep my mouth closed when I feel like complaining about our weather. I keep saying...."STFU! You could be up there where it's a frozen wasteland!!!!" lol

A little cold and rain won't kill me, that's for sure. I just have to be a "big girl" about it and get out there!

Hey now, I only run over the old people and the smart-a$$ teenagers. Oh and anyone who should have had the decency to not line up in the front row as they run a 10:00 opening mile. As long you you don't fit those descriptions, everything will be fine.

For the record, I did a TRI-IT tri for my first last season and don't regret it. I wouldn't do one again this year however.
