I was going to ask you guys to "talk me down"...

It seems my biological clock was ticking and I wanted a dog to add to our brood. I've been searching and searching, but haven't found the right one.

My husband came up to me the other day and asked if I wanted a dog. I said, yeah, of course! What kind?

Husky about 6 months old. Apparently the neighbor who I pet sat for before several times had had ENOUGH and was debating getting rid of her.

So I came up with a SOLID plan. I told my husband we would watch her for one week. Two objectives would get solved: one, I would either get cured of puppy desire or it would solidify it, and two, it would allow my neighbor to make the decision at a more leisurely pace. (She really doesn't want to give her up)

Day two: I know I don't want a puppy, maybe older dog. Probably not a husky.

They must be taking it from us while we sleep!

It would be great to get this husky and yours together!! They would be physically matched. This girl NEVER gets tired.

We like smart dogs. We have Airedales and they are wicked smart. I think we are leaning toward a labradoodle/goldendoodle--we fostered one years ago that was amazing.

Day 3: The dogs are exhausted, except for the Husky. My little terrier is asleep in her box. I am convinced I do not want a Husky.

We've always wanted a Standard Poodle or Schnauzer. We had a little bitty poodle we bought from a pet store (I know, I know) 20+ years ago. We were young and dumb. She was a nasty little dog, but I was still crushed when she died. Her accent would have been more Southern Smoker with Tall Bleached Hair. (We did live in Texas at the time) I am sure I made lots of mistakes raising her, many I've fixed, but I still don't think I'm a fan of little bitty dogs.

And Gdawg: leave it to you to make this x-rated. and icky. and fub.

Took Husky on a second walk today. Put her on a body harness and was able to keep the lead fairly loose. She hardly pulled at all. And she sat at every corner without much prompting and she sat when people walked by. So far she's not noisy, but loves to talk to Mr Aire. She aroos at him for breakfast and when he comes home from work.

A second vote for Poodle or Lab. Or Labradoodle.

Yes- Poodles are too smart for their own good- but they also are extremely well socialized- or at least can be. It's also common for them to think they're human- which provides hours of entertainment - for example- if they take car rides with you- they'll sometimes hop in the driver's seat before you get there and look at you like "I'm driving today, mah cherie!" (I always imagine they have a sultry french accent).

Labs are kinda goofy - but not stupid. The sophistication of the Poodle and goofiness of the Lab will probably work well and you'll have a very friendly and sweet and trainable doggy.

I blame PBS.

A couple years ago, I happened to flip the local station on. I have no idea what the show was about - business or society or something. A woman comes over to her friend's house with her small dog (I'm guessing a Yorkie). The women are in nice dresses, heels, pearls, the whole nine yards. The host has a Yorkie. The two women sit down in the living room for coffee, and while they're chatting, they let the dogs go at it on the carpet in front of them. It was like a play/sex-date for the dogs! They finish their business, and the visting women picks up her dog and leaves.

This is a close runner-up to the other PBS show I saw where a woman was having a sex toy party for her GFs. Unedited. I'm serious. I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried!

I've always wondered about Corgi personalities. I always wondered what type of temperament would so enamor and captivate the Queen of England.
A couple of years ago we adopted an adult Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He is one of the best dogs I have ever had. He has a great personality and loves to play, but calms down and is a good lazy dog. He is also a great running partner for me, which is great. plus, there is nothing cute than a Corgi Butt!!!!
