have you seen the latest research about grapefruit? the amount of phytoestrogens in grapefruit is sky-high, in addition to other hormone-affecting-substances. they've found that post-menopausal women consuming grapefruit on a regular (meaning 1/2 a grapefruit, or a serving of grapefruit juice daily) basis have a 40% increase in the chance they'll develop breast cancer.

which sucks, 'cause i love it. but, i've seriously cut back.

Thank goodness something I detest is not considered great for me. You can have my share of grapefruit, but I don't want anything to happen to you, so I'll just put it on my compost pile here...

Hmmm...I have read the exact opposite: that phytoestrogens in fact appear to protect women from cancer. I need to do some more research on this.

Soy products are also VERY high in phytoestrogens.

i was mistaken. it's the glucarates in grapefruit; they inhibit function of a molecule which helps process estrogen.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6900482.stm
