Some of you know I have been job hunting. Well, I have an interview for today.

Problem is I am sicker than I've been in a long time. I wouldn't go to work like

this--I'd infect the populace.

So, it's a no go?

If this is something that just came up, keep a distance from the interviewer (really), and explain you got this too soon to re-schedule the interview.

Or you could wear a surgical mask - draw a smile on it.

Hope it works out for you.

Call and ask. Say that you are particularly interested in the opportunity, appreciate the interview, but that you are ill and feel that you would not be up to giving them a complete impression of you skills and abilities and they you also would not like to pass this along. Ask for another time and if that is not possible then it's up to you to decide.

ack. what crappy timing.

i might attempt to go if it isn't stomach related but be up front with the interviewer when you get there and give her the option of rescheduling it while you are there.

really, if you feel like complete crap, i'd just call..if you can't imagine dragging yourself out of the house, then don't.

feel better and hope you get the job.

If this is a local interview I'd be more likely to call and see if I can reschedule. It does disrupt their schedule, but so does eveyone catching whatever bug you've got.

If it's an out-of-town interview I'd be more likely to try to suck-it-up if I could. You've already gone to a great deal of effort to get to their site - and they've probably already spent a fair amount of money getting you there. Make it clear you're feeling under the weather, and if you feel it's really necessary you could ask for more breaks during the day.

In either case, use some common sense. Feeling miserable is one thing, but not daring to get more than five feet from the toilet brings the discussion to a whole new leve.

If I was the person doing the hiring and you called to tell me you were sick and couldn't make the interview, I would simply say thank you for calling and that would be it. Your resume would go in the round file and I'd move on the the next applicant.

This is what I would do, too, if it were me hiring. Ah well. I did call in, though, and let them know I could not make my appointment and did not give a reason.

I've gotten worse as the day has gone on, so good call. I'm gross. ack.

It would depend on the job and the amount of applicants and the amount of time involved and lots of other things.

If I needed someone NOW, then they would be sunk probably. Especially if I had a lot of applicants.

If it were a 3 or 4 week long process for me to find the right person, and I had a lot of applicants, and interviewees, I would accept (and have accepted, by the way) a reschedule.

I'm not in the habit of making excuses.

And jc, I did tell the person I spoke with I'd very much like to reschedule. But, maybe I just knew what I'd be

thinking if an applicant called up and cancelled, so I figured they'd probably be thinking the same. Plus, I've

been feeling like hell and I've got two term papers to write, so maybe I'm not my most positive, cheerful, look on

the bright side self.

And who knows, if it is meant to be it will work out in the end.

If your plane actually crashes and you are in intensive care it is a REASON, not an excuse.

An excuse is a BS story to cover up the fact that one has neglected to do something or doesn't want to do something.

It does sound like you weren't entirely mentally or physically prepared at this particular time for the interview.

Jobs are like buses...they come by all the time. Some are just nicer buses than others, and some go faster.

Hope you catch a nice fast one soon.
