I know it is partly stress and the pain of the shoulder, but I also know that this one thing gets me every time regardless of my mental state. And it is esoteric.

At one point in the Halleluia Chorus the frantic motion stops and all is focused on one pause. The line goes "The kingdome of this world..." pause. And then the Altos come in before everyone else with "Is"... "Is become...

And it goes from there. Serious goosebumps. I'm talking major league here. No matter how pitiful the choir is (and the building choir is pretty pathetic). It gets me. Every. Time.

See, I told you it was esoteric.

Last year Miss S's school had a talent show. Kids singing and dancing and playing "Old McDonald" on their violins. I got totally choked up. There were no prodigies in the group. But watching the kids have such a great time and be surrounded by a supportive community was really moving.

I will occasionally get randomly choked up when reading books aloud to my kiddos, too.

That is an EVIL book. The missus had to read it.

I was absolutely 100% fine until the processional music started at the school's morning graduation service (the ceremony in the afternoon was worse).

I hated reading it to my kids. Probably because my parents had untimely deaths a few years before my kids were born.

So, one time we're at my in-laws, and I'm reading this thing to one of my kids, and welling up, and my mother-in-law is laughing because she thought it was the stupidest book that was ever written.

Bitch.

Of course, she had 8 kids, so, may she had a different perspective.

Oh, "How Smudge Came" by Nan Gregory kills me too.

Awesome God by Rich Mullins is a good one. I went to a very small concert by Mitch McVickers and he shared about the loss of Rich. Not a dry eye in the room.

"The Giving Tree" always choked me up when I read it to he kids.

Hallelujah Chorus makes the hair on my arms stand at attention...every time.

whereas "Proud to Be a Merkun" makes me gag...every time. And it's not because I'm not one or anti-Merkun. I find God Bless America really moving....as well as the first 6 notes of The Star Spangled Banner.

BTW Robert Munsch's kids went to my school and he came to read. My only requirement was that it NOT be "Love You Forever"

BTW, cool that RM's kids went to your school.

You should have made him read "Good Families Don't". Or Paper Bag Princes or Pigs. All favorites in our house to this day.

BTW, Mrs. Tee (a librarian) just got Judy Freeman to come visit her school for the day. Apparently it was pretty cool.

Twenty years ago we had it at our wedding. With the guys in uniform, it was actually very moving.

Now? Not so much.

And JC. wow. It's been years since I was at the CH, but you I remember and all that you shared I never forgot. It's been a part of me all these years. You and your wife really touched my heart.

Nah, it's been kinder the last few years since he admitted to the problem and sought help. True, he had that stroke, but I think his life is better now than it was for years.

Ya, that book gets me too. I think I get teary in any movie where a kid gets sick/dies. Likely because losing one of my kids is my greatest fear.

Life has too much difficult with it as is, give me movies/books that are total fiction.

Up. I cried at the end of Ellie's life - a brilliant bit of modern silent film making. STill I love that movie. I call T3 Little Postman some days for fun.

I liked "Up" too. But one did have to suspend one's disbelief. For example (forget about the ballons) who took the pictures? Hmmmm?
