I saw the New York Titans play in the Polo Grounds. I think there were about 10,000 in the beat up old place.

I won $250 on Super Bowl III (actually I don't think it was called Super Bowl yet) when the Jets beat the Colts who were favoured by a whole lot.

People were giving me between 22 and 30 points as they expected the Colts to win by 50. I liked Joe Namath and thought he could keep it close.

Did he ever!

Who remembers Ronnie Lott was a Jet?

I bet they lost. Football players are just too big and heavy for those horses to carry around.

Nooo, they won. They were playing the Buffalo Bills and they beat the Buffalos into submission with their polo sticks. It was sad.

I just googled New York attendance avg, It was 16,000 in 1960....fell to 5,000 in 1963 when the league took them over. That changed pretty quickly when they moved to Shea in 1964 and became the Jets.
Sorry, it's a very inappropriate post, but I can't help it, someone else stuck it in my head and I can't think of him any other way. Urban Dictionary will define it for you.

Not sure what to make of the Jets.

On one hand, I'm happy for LaDanian, and hope they win the Super Bowl for him, because I love that guy and appreciate him as an athlete about as much as I can.

On the other hand, it did rub me the "wrong way" when during the pre-season he said "it's the best team" I've ever been on.

Really?

You know you were on a team that went 14-2? And 13-3? And you went to the AFC Championship game once?

That was a little low.

So I'm torn between them winning the whole thing, and them getting their azzes handed to them next week by the Steelers.

I'm still cheering for the Packers, regardless. Brett Favre can eat it.

I know it's a different world now and all, but I was reading about Super Bowl III, and it was listed that a 30-second spot went for $55,000.

Now, it's up to $3 Million.

That's incredible.

The thing about the old AFL was all those players from small black schools. And those NFL rejects that did have talent, guys like Len Dawson, Paul Lowe and Clemon Daneils (Lowe being the first 1000 yard rusher for the Chargers, Daneils doing the same for the Raiders). They could play.

When the Cheifs beat the Vikings the big play in that game was NFL reject Len Dawson throwing to Prarie Views Otis Taylor (the first big fast receiver) The single most important play in football history (can argue Ameche's TD)That sealed the win for the Cheifs and evened things up at 2-2 in Championship wins. That game is why we saw the merger. If the AFL had won the following year it would have cost the NFL a lot of $$$$$$$ because of fan interest/sponsers. So who can tell me the three NFL teams that were placed the new AFC?

As far as the Jets go, I do believe it's Rex Ryan's style that has them where they are. A coach saying it's personal between him and another coach???????? That's new. I think his players pick up on his attitude and run with it. No Wade Phillips here. No .."gotta say the right things"...with Ryan. Trust me players are mean/vicious and work at saying the right things. They'd love to..."we're gotta kick their ass".....but don't. Ryan let's it be known it's ok to come real.

Number 21 is Mike Garrett a Heisman winner out of USC.
