The Great Chesapeake Bay Swim on June 12th is my first truly "ultra" event, not counting ironman.

4.4 miles across the Chesapeake Bay, between the spans of the Bay Bridge.

We start from near Anapolis, MD, and swim to the "eastern shore."

Awesome.

Truly.

The Bay Bridge was an engineering marvel when it was built, due to it's length, and the depth of the Bay. It's a double span bridge, one each direction, and allows transportation directly across the Bay without having to drive all the way up north to Delaware, then turning south for people who want to get some of the best crab and seafood on the eastern seaboard.

And I'm swimming it.

This weekend, Rabbit and I went to the Lake to get my long OWS trial done. She paddled in a kayak to keep me from getting run over by a boat, and I tested the wetsuit and my endurance. In 2:18, I managed 5 miles. That includes a feeding stop after mile 2 and a rest stop w/ picture taking after mile 3. Then, we switched places and she got her first extended swim time in OW as well. 2 miles later and we were both chilly, hungry and ready to head home.

There's something about lunch after a long chilly swim that makes the food just taste better, know what I mean?

Anyway....that's my track.

If you zoom in on it, you'll notice that it appears as if I was drunk-swimming. I assure you, I was not. Let's just say that sighting still isn't a mastered skill of mine.

Not showing on the track is the path that we took when Rabbit swam. I was paddling for the first time ever.....and, only ran over her once! :)

Yes, my friends, I ran over the swimmer I was supposed to be protecting while she was swimming.

I wonder what that does to my karma point bank?

Hypothermia was figured out when it happened.

I wasn't appropriately dressed for cold rain....cold, ok......cold rain, not ok.

And, now I have an emergency bag in my car that has extra clothes, a towel, stuff in case I have to spend the night somewhere, and first aid approved by Rabbit.

Thanks!

Rabbit said, "well, I'm not worried about the 600 yds in the triathlon now." :D

She'll be fine!
