I am planning on doing a tri for fun but I cant sign up until I have resolved my knee issues.

My bike is pathetic so I would be embarassed to try a "real tri" with my ancient mountain bike.

Hey MG - good seeing ya over here. Was it this one you were thinking of?

Emeryville Mini-Tri

It sounds pretty fun actually, and at my current rate of recovery, it's something I can handle

Hmmm...that wasnt the one but I could probably do that one. Just have to see what my Dr says next week. I was thing one of the three in Livermore/Pleasanton during the summer. I could do any of those without specifically training since I already bike, run, and swim.

Hey MG.

I signed up for a mini tri this summer. It's beginner encouraged and I'm riding my 15+ year old mountain bike. It's a Trek. We can look goofy together!

Just go for it! The tri community is VERY friendly and LOVES to see new people to the sport. It doesn't matter what kind of bike you have. In fact, you should do the tri with your old bike so you'll appreciate the new bike you will buy after that tri.

Exactly! I rode my chumpy 8 year old Diamondback in my first tri and no one laughed at me. I was just slow. But I had SO much fun that I was bike shopping within a week. I shaved 10 minutes off my time at the second one on my new road bike. I am expecting great (well, better anyway!) things this year on the new bike!

I concur.. you will see the whole range of bikes at the local sprint tris. I'm sure it gets a little more sophisticated with the longer distance races.... don't have experience with that just yet. But do it and have fun!

My bike is 34 now. She, like I, looks great for her age. I had a younger (15yr.) version but he couldn't handle the stress. Kept popping tires and dropping chains before he broke a crank and went missing from the porch. (I feel sorry for whoever stole that bike)
Anyway, only Matt drives a snob. Your bike wouldn't want to play with his bike anyway. I hear she's a real b!tch.
