Rest day for me today. I got in a nice post-work 4miles yesterday and greatly improved mood after a tough day.

I enjoyed Goonie's quotes from a couple of days ago about running... So here is the QOD: What is your 1 favorite quote about running or the running lifestyle?

QOD: it's not necessarily intended for running, but after yesterday's discussion, this became about running for me:

Little miss evil this morning. Still reworking the schedule for the week, but I have 3/5/8 to get in between now and Sunday, plus another little miss evil on Friday. Yikes.

Yesterday I was going to run after work. Well it did not take long for me to realize why I switched to mornings. It was awful. Not long after I started the run my lower legs were hurting big time. They felt almost stiff and swollen. My calves and sides of my lower legs felt like balloons that were going to explode any second. Even my left hamstring twinged up on me. I punted and had to stop the run early due to the major discomfort. I followed my same routine as with my morning runs. I don't remember having any of those problems in the early mornings. Maybe sitting around all day in a chair at the office has something to do with it. I don't know. Perhaps it was just a bad body day or something heh. Either way, tomorrow be it dark or not I have to go run in the mornings or not at all. That was a disappointing experience for sure.

I don't mean that to be a downer or anything. Just giving a recap of yesterday. It's not big deal. I tried to get in my run that I passed on in the morning and it did not work out for me. I'll try to have a better run tomorrow.

Yesterday turned into a rest day. I was physically incapable of moving. (Details in blog.) Teaching 2 classes at the Y tonight.

QOD: This wasn't originally said about running, but it works for me, especially when I'm in the middle of racing season (i.e. summer) and suffering on the track or on the bike trainer. "I hated every minute of the training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'" ~ Muhammed Ali

rest day yesterday due to the chest cold sickness. Hoping to get back on the horse today - prospects for a good Saturday HM are looking increasingly slim.

Feeling worn down the last day or two so no run yesterday. Hope to make it out for some miles tonight when I get home from work. Hard to do but I need to get into my spring sports-runs/exercise-comes-first-in-the-am mindset.

Here's my quote (besides the one in my signature down there):

Running, one might say, is basically an absurd pastime upon which to be exhausting ourselves. But if you can find meaning in the type of running you need to do ... chances are you'll be able to find meaning in that other absurd pastime - LIFE.

Morning all! I was planning to meet my downtown bridges running crew this morning but it was 30* and pouring buckets, wouldn't be that bad while running but getting home afterward would surely have frozen me. Cold rain is the WORST to me and thus I bailed. Our rain should stop by the evening and I'll get out then.

QOD - not a quote but an old Nike campaign...

“You pretended the snooze button didn’t exist. You dragged your butt out of bed while others slept. While others ate their pancakes you had a feast of protein, glucose and electrolytes. You double-knotted. You left the porch light on and locked the door behind you.

You ran 5Ks, 10Ks, 26.2 miles. Some days more, some days less. You rewarded a long run with a short run. And a short run with a long run. Rain tried to slow you. Sun tried to microwave you. Snow made you feel like a warrior.

You cramped. You bonked. You paid no mind to comfort. On weekends. On holidays. You made excuses to keep going. Questioned yourself. Played mind games. Put your heart before your knees. Listened to your breathing. Sweat sunscreen into your eyes. Worked on your farmer’s tan.

You hit the wall. You went through it. You decided to be man about it. You decided to be woman about it. Finished what you started. Proved what you were made of. Just kept putting mile after mile on your interval odometer. For 25 years, you ran. And we ran with you. How much farther will we go? As far as you will.”

As a single quote I love "You only regret the runs you don't do."

Love all the QOD: Here is one that is likewise not limited to running that I have always liked - particularly when coming off a bad race: "Some people try and they succeed; others try and short they fall; I tip my hat to both groups 'cause most people never try at all."

Howdy guys. I took the day off from work for jury duty, but that was rather uneventful. Sat around, did nothing, got sent home early. I have to call back tonight to see if I have to go in tomorrow. I hope not. I have the rest of the week off too, and I'd much rather spend it at home doing nothing than at the courthous doing nothing. :D

Since I'm home, I'm gonna go for a run now.

QOD: Umm, I dunno. I like the one in Moonie's sig line about how to run a marathon: Step 1, Start Running. There is no Step 2.

Woot! It was 58 degrees when I went for my run this afternoon! I did 9.5 miles with 5 x 1000meters at 5K pace with 2 minute recoveries. I was a bit worried b/c I missed my first 2 interval sessions due to snow/ice and I was afraid starting at 1000 meters would kick my arse. But it went well!! Yay!

I returned to the track yesterday -- 2 miles easy to get there, 2x 400 + 2x 800, then 2 easy home. I wasn't sure how any of that would go with my head cold, but when the 400's went ok, I bumped it up to 800's and those went ok, too.

Then I went to yoga. 90 minutes in a 95* room. Wasn't sure that would work, either, but I made it through ok there, too! Whew.

Today was 8 miles in the hilly part of town. 5 on my own, and then 3 with the group run. My dad was taken to the hospital in the Keys yesterday with 2 blood clots in his leg. Looks like they got them in time, but he'll be there getting treated for a few days. Between that and people starting to get fired at work today (upwards of 15-30 people will likely lose their job this year), I had a little steam to release. Ran those 8 with some speed tonight.
