(the artist formerly known as sex ed)

I'm having my kids "preview" their book and the chapters we will be covering today, just to show them that it's all covered very scientifically, and there's nothing "salacious" in there.

As to the boys, you'll just have to wing it.

I know many of my anatomy kids from other classes/activities around school and am DREADING the reproductive system chapter. I usually assume they know all the "anatomy" and spend most of my time talking about birth control and pregnancy, but it's still EXTREMELY akward and uncomfortable!

When we took the "sex ed" course back in my day it consisted of one, maybe two days of talking about technicalities in very vague terms during a health care chapter. So we had to do a lot of experimentation after the class to try and confirm what the instructor was talking about. For parts of the lecture they divided boys from girls for an hour or so. It was very boring and didn't teach anything.

Our sex ed was actually really good, but the next year the teacher was not back and that was the reason I heard, too many parents complained about the sex ed. It was not dirty or pro-sex, it was very well done and she also talked about homosexuality, etc. Sigh. you just cannot win :(

At one of my HS re-unions some of the girls were talking about their health/PE teacher. Apparently she was known for telling the girls that they shouldn't sit in the boy's laps, but if they did they needed to put a towel down first.

(She was teaching the same subjects when my parents went through the program several years earlier.)
