I leave him with a dog-sitter. Otherwise, he'll just eat potato chips and drink kool aid when I'm gone.

How does your dear pet survive?

You can talk about your houseplants too. I don't have any.

I have hamsters. If it's up to 2 nights away, I can just leave extra food and they're fine! Longer than that, I have to get someone to come over and feed them or take them to my parents' house so they don't have to drive over her 4x/week.

No pets, no plants.

But I have kids.

Formula is easy: Number of kids X Days away X Boxes of Pop Tarts

I love hamsters!

I had one when I was little named Daniel. I named him after a French boy I loved.

The cat gets to stay at the house by himself. We just fill up his food bowl and water bowl and have someone check on him every 2 days or so. He's very independent.

The dog gets a trip the in-law's farm, where she gets to run around on 160 acres and play with cow poop and chase chickens.

It's a win-win for both of them.

The rambunctious kitty boys get to stay home by themselves without any supervision for up to 2 nights away. Any longer than that, and Grandma Judy and/or Uncle Nick (MIL and BIL) come to take care of them. My MIL will actually come over and sit at the house for an hour or so every day because she worries that they will get lonely. It's even cuter, because she is very allergic to cats.

Before BIL got married, he used to come spend the night here with Yoda (who was an only kitten at that time) because he didn't want him to be by himself.

So we have all of these lovely arrangements in place, but the rambunctious kitty boys still get upset if we aren't around. We always find puke on our pillows when we return.

Penny usually stays with the dogwalker and then we get someone to come in and check on Miss Trixie. She gets lonely when no one is here.

We've had someone house and pet sit and that is the best. I'm hoping when we go away this summer we can make those arrangements again.

Dillon stays by himself if we're gone for 2 nights or so ...anymore and we'll either board him or J's brother will stop in and check in on him, refill his food & water and pet his belly a bit. The dude sleeps all day, sometimes I wonder if he notices we're gone.

We have lady bugs so some are still alive when we come back and some are dead. No different than any other day

It is true, for some reason we have lady bugs all over the place. I made a joke the other day that they are our pets. I have no idea how we ended up with so many in the house and I have no idea how to get rid of them.

How weird! I guess they stop being cute ladybugs when you have that many of them crawling and flying around.

I wonder if it's because you live near a creek or some other body of water. I recall Carvindude posting about that.

We have two dogs, two birds and a snake. We have a pet sitter come in to take care of the zoo.

Dog 1 always does great. I think he likes the break from the kids! He does NOT do well in a kennel--chews the hair off his front legs, and if they give him a blanket he'll chew that up, too.

Dog 2 doesn't do so great. She gets herself all worked up and ends up messing her area. So, three times a day the pet sitter ends up cleaning up messes.

Birds pretty much on auto-pilot. They're both about 20yo and we're expecting that any day...

Snake--never fails, this snake can go for MONTHS without pooping. Whenever we go away, she craps every day!
