<p class="NormalParagraphStyle">During preparation for the broadcast of the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Friday, veteran announcer Ron Franklin reportedly made a derogatory comment to sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards that resulted in Franklin being pulled off coverage of the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday.</p>
<p class="NormalParagraphStyle">Franklin and Edwards were preparing for the game with fellow announcers Ed Cunningham and Rod Gilmore, according to a report by SportsbyBrooks.com. Gilmore’s wife, Marie, was recently elected mayor of Alameda, Calif. When Edwards mentioned her election, Franklin reportedly said to Edwards: “Why don’t you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes.”</p>
<p class="NormalParagraphStyle">When Edwards balked at being called, “sweetcakes,” Franklin reportedly responded: “OK, then, a--hole.”</p>
<p class="NormalParagraphStyle">Franklin worked the Friday bowl game but was replaced on Saturday by Dave Lamont.</p>
<p class="NormalParagraphStyle">Franklin has been with ESPN since 1987.</p>
