<p>On the mall today despite the cold was a highland piper. I watched him play for a bit and was captivated by the face of a child in a stroller who was paying rapt attention to the piper. The kid was perhaps a bit older than 2. "What's that?" he asked, and was dissatisfied by the answer he was given. "NOOO, THAT!" and he mimiced the sound of the drones - in perfect pitch up a couple of octaves. </p>

<p>His mom couldn't answer so I said, "It's called a drone, it always blows the same note." "Oh." said the kid. "What note?" Now I wasn't going to go into the mechanics of it and how the bagpipe isn't blowing the same frequency as other instruments, so I said "It's called an A note". The kid started singing along with the drone. "AAAAAAAA". Perhaps since he was Canajun he was singing "Eh?"</p>
