Challenge

"Run" at minimum a mile per day from now until the end of the year.

As of this writing, we have 13 streakers (out of 21 total, including two yet to report) who completed Week 4, and even more impressive is that those 13 also earned Week 1 & 2 & 3, so that's 13 streakers over a span of nearly 4 weeks... almost a full month!

Want to join? Raise your hand. I'll add you to the list.

Week 5 - Monday, Dec. 19 thru. Sunday, Dec. 26

Week #5 is the fourth full week and sure to be the hardest to date, what with all the holiday festivities rocking into swing. This will be hard both physically and mentally, so be strong, set a time for yourself, and just do it. And if you catch yourself over-thinking things... STOP. Just do.

Monday & Tuesday

You were on your own for Monday and Tuesday this week because, yeah, I still suck in not getting this out sooner. If you still have to get in Tuesday and are looking for something different, why not grab that Santa hat (hey, you only have a few day's per year when you can wear it, so pull it over your head), laced the up the shoes, and do one of your favorite routes in the opposite direction. As you are running, insert 4 pickups for 1 minute (or to the third telephone pole) where you ease into a fast but under control pace. Just get the legs firing and furnace kicking. That's all. Take 3 to 5 minutes jog in between.

Wednesday

This may be your last opportunity for a Christmas Lights Run. You know the drill. Have fun! And don't forget the Santa hat. And hey, if you are wondering why Christmas and not some other holiday, know that I am not discriminating. Many of you know my beliefs, and yes, even I celebrate and love this time of year. And yes, even I dig Christmas lights. So if you celebrate another holiday or are not a believer in any of the above, this doesn't mean you cannot have some fun with the Christmas Lights Run!

Thursday

Today or tomorrow will likely be an easy/short day. Assuming tomorrow is that day, for today we're going to try again the runNYtrails Photo Run! Pick a route -- any route of any distance -- and grab one picture that shows us what the loop is all about. Post your photo or links to it here!

Friday

Good day for a mile. Or swap it with Thursday. Your call. If you want to run longer (or do something else), do it with a friend. Enjoy this time of year when people feel the love of being connected with others. If no company, maybe treat yourself to a run with music (or without if you normally listen to tunes).

Saturday

Group Run, and be sure to grab that Santa hat. If you cannot hook up with a group, pick a slightly longer loop today, grab some good tunes, and enjoy the day. Stop the music halfway through and listen to the sounds around you. Then on the return trip, or at least somewhere after halfway, insert 4 to 6 pickups of, say, 2 minutes each. This isn't speedwork, so don't kill these... just pick up pace to something fast but in control. Your body will like it. Trust me.

Sunday - Christmas Day

This is a GREAT day to laced up those new kicks and take them for a spin. Or grab your in-law and go for a walk or light jog. Don't pile on the miles. You have all year to do that. Instead just be joyful and wave to all passing cars. People are really friendly on Christmas Day. And wear that Santa hat, for you'd be amazed at how it gets people to smile.

COMING WEEKS TEASER: Comfort Zone Run (I promise).

Not too late to join, folks! Raise your hand and I'll add you to the list. Any and all are welcome. Also, current Streakers, feel free to add fun ideas.

This has been a tough week to carve out time but there is NO way that I'm getting to 28 days of at least one mile and stopping. Once I made it past 3 days straight it's become the norm.

The BIG thing that I've realized this week- When I run more often, I have far more really great runs. The bad ones are just blips and nothing to worry about. Because of this, I'm not dreading having to go out the door.

Thanks for the ideas again, Thor!! Will be putting on the Santa hat tomorrow. :)

So far this week...

M - p90x legs/back

T - 40 minutes on the TM with some speed intervals

W - KTSA (keep the streak alive) 1-miler. Had a long, stressful work day and that was all I could get in

Th - 3 mile run around a local lake

Tammy: This is music to my ears. Really, this makes me happy!

And hey, on continuing the streak, the holiday time will be tough, so carve out 15 to 20 minutes (minimum) a day. That's all. And have better runs! :)

Ok...it's been awhile since I checked in....travel and all that.

Here goes:

16 Dec. mile walking

17 Dec. mile walking (IN the mall, amid 97,000,000 other people.) I think I got some agility training.

18 Dec. another mile walking, this time in a different mall. These were the "Special outing" trips with the nieces. Everyone got loot. I managed to find buy one get one free jeans for the teen, and super good sale prices for the "littles." Littles got shoes, and teen got tops. All are happy.

19 Dec. 5 miles of hill work.

20 Dec. mile walking, doing the school route. The "path mama drama" is a sight to see, lemme tell ya!

21 Dec. 3 miles run along the cow pastures. Turns out, they didn't remember me and ran away in fright. So sad.

22 Dec. trainer ride. The warm temps made for a Schweaty ride....I almost opened up mom's front door. She thought that that would make for "gossip" in town. (*sigh*)

23 Dec. (today, if I counted right)..... 2 mile FAST run in the other direction in town. I got to finish on the downhill instead of the uphill. Yay!

Love the opposite direction run...tried that today! Did part of the regular route, but then went "backwards" through a neighborhood and managed to not get myself lost. Exactly 5m for the day...pace was a little slow, but still a fun run.

12/24 Edit:

Sadly, the streak will be broken today on account of a lovely 2am trip to the ER for some of the worst abdominal pain I've ever experienced. They ran a bunch of tests, including a CT scan but couldn't find anything wrong! I was given some very lovely pain meds, and have been instructed to take it easy today and eat a bland diet for a couple days. The doc thought maybe it was a kidney stone that passed. I've never missed a Christmas Day run since I started running, so hoping for at least a 1-miler tomorrow!

That's absolutely awesome, runNYtrails! Way to bring the Christmas spirit with you.

Let's see... let me get caught up a bit here.

Tuesday - strength workout - legs

Wednesday - Kettlebell hell (well, maybe only the entrance to hell)

Thursday - 2k early morning rowing. I'm thankful it's an ERG, if I were really on the water it would be dangerous to row with my eyes half-closed.

Friday - 20 minute trainer ride

Saturday - yoga and ab work. Form still looks pretty ugly, but there's progress.

Week 5 done here too! Had to skip Saturday on account of abdominal pain of uncertain cause (that was my official diagnosis on my discharge paperwork - haha), but felt great yesterday and did a 5-miler...1 with the dog, 4 with the little otters.

Looking forward to another great week!!

I haven't posted my runs here, but I posted them in the daily threads. The streak is still going. I haven't missed a day in over a year. I have been considering cutting it down to only a mile on the days when I'm really tired instead of the self imposed 30 minutes minimum I've been adhering to.
