Highland Forest 123

The Highland Forest 123 is a trail run consisting of 1-3 fairly technical 10 mile loops. My goal was to complete at least 2 loops and see how I felt.

Even though the trails were in great shape and the forecast rain held off, yesterday was not my day. After the first lap (1:44 and change) I had to attend to a blister on the inside of my left heel. Not good. I’ve used the same style of shoe for almost 2 years with never a problem. Also the head cold that I’d had for almost 2 weeks was making me a sloppy mess and I just couldn’t get my breathing into a comfortable pattern.

While walking a steep up at the beginning of the second loop I knew I wasn’t going to be able to complete 3 without great pain and suffering, and with the beginnings of a blister now forming on the inside of my right heel I made the decision that 2 would be it. I struggled through the second lap a sloppy, snotty, heaving mess.

I ambled into the start/finish area and gave the, I’ve had enough sign and called it a day. 20 miles in 3:48 something I think. A blistering pace.

Today is the first time I’ve been able to breathe through my nose in almost 2 weeks. Fcuking Murphy!
