Man, it is just so hard with computers these days. Does that one have decent specs? Yes. The processor, memory, hard drive all look good. The problem I have is that most off-the-shelf computers have proprietary parts that make it difficult to upgrade. If you're not a pc upgrader, this machine should be good for a few years.

In the interest of full disclosure:

1. I prefer to spec my own computers
2. I like Apple for when number 1 (above) does not apply
3. I don't run windows (except on my corporate laptop). Otherwise I'm an OSX or Linux guy.

So, it really should be fine then. The specs are actually pretty good. I think that particular one is a refurb. That may or may not be a big deal (some people care about that, others do not).

I have owned gateway in the past and it got a good 6-7 years worth of use (though I kicked it to my MIL after 3).

Building your own, BTW, is not necessarily cheaper. It can be way more money. I just don't like paying for Windows OS that I know I will not use. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a Microsoft hater. I just don't prefer it. That does not make it bad in my mind.
