Hi folks, I started this thread at RunningAhead to get some input about where people think they'll end up and why. (Already, DH has formulated a...uh...unique plan for our survival...well, at least some of us.) I really like the RA site and its interface but people are the most important thing. I'd miss the great folks on this site....and, of course our new friend:
-----------------------------------
[cut and paste from the RA thread--with adjustments so it's not too confusing]

I suspect others are in the same boat of
(a) having decided to leave Active but
(b) being unsure of whether to come here or go to RA.

I'm someone who will choose one site and stay; I just don't have time to bounce back and forth between multiple sites. I'm curious about what people think and why.

Three things are of interest to me:
1) who will be here? I'm being selfish: I want to learn, have a sense of community, and have fun.
2) what is the interface like? Simple, clean is my preference.
3) is the site stable; will it be around for a while?

I don't really know about #1, although I suspect folks who have been at KR for awhile will stay.

#2 I prefer the RA interface to KR's. It really is a delight to use. I don't use an on-line log, but for others I know the log here is nice too.

#3 I don't know enough about RA to feel confident about its stability. KR has just gone through switching to a new server and will hopefully be stable.

In addition, I still feel a little reticent about "invading" the KR site. RA--at least the master's forum--has no history so we step on no one's toes going there. We get to create our own place.

Right now, I'm leaning towards RA but will be heavily influenced by where others decide to go. Regardless, it's nice to have two excellent alternatives. I intend to support whichever new site I choose with a donation. The Active debacle has made me doubly appreciative of these DIY efforts.

What do you think?

Hi Tramps,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

As much as I miss Dark Horse, and others, I don't know if I have the energy or time to get sucked into reading another thread even for just a little while. My life is whirling out of control and I've got to get a handle on things. I hope someone will tap me on the shoulder and lead me to the new Mothership if everyone vacates Kick and you see me sitting here all alone!

Well..the most important thing to me....frankly...is where is the vast majority of CR Boomers are going to reside....

The interface is important but only second to the community....

I mean...the CR interface (imho) was not all that great.....

Also, I don't use a on-line log....

The KR editor is better..imo

The forum appearance is cleaner at RA...

As sad as the demise of CR is...I will say the group had gotten so large that it was next to impossible for me to keep up....

Anyways....those are my initial thoughts.....

As I posted in my final post at CR - Even after several years of posting at CR, and qualifying as a 40x40 runner for 45 weeks in 2007, for some reason, I seemed to be an outsider / misfit with the CR group. I feel comfortable posting here, like vbulletin software, and I like Sans weeky thread, so I'll be here for the time being.

I'm going to stay here. They went to a lot of trouble to upgrade with the influx of posters. I'm loyal to a fault. I'll also go to CR or wherever the 50+ crowd settles in. If everyone leaves this site for RA, I'll likely follow. I enjoy ya'll.

I like it here - I like hearing everyone's little daily sagas - I'm gonna stick around. You guys really help to motivate me.

I post on this thread with a bit of hesitancy. Not that the topic isn't something that needs addressed, but it seems a bit rude to be discussing the pro's and con's of other sites on a site that has been nice enough to welcome us with open arms. As KS mentioned, Kick has certainly gone to great trouble to host the migrating masses, and has let us evolve the master forum to fit our needs. I would also like to show a little loyalty, so I guess I'm here unless there is a mass exodus.

I can't imagine going back there to CR. I've not checked out the RunningAhead site and it might be an excellent one. But, again, I'm content here unless the crowd dwindles substantially. The group here in the masters forum has been remarkably fun, witty, and, as my grandpa would say...."they know some stuff." I find it interesting to see the new faces each day as the crowd grows.

As strange as it sounds for me, Ms Verbosity, to say, I find it hard to put this into words. But here goes ...

I guess I'm one of the group that came over here early on. I thought it was kind of Rich and Sierra to create a place for us with all the talk of change at Cool Running. Around that time -- or at least I think it was -- late October, I tore my calf muscle. Maybe I retreated here like a hurt animal; I dunno.

Anyway, I dove in with both feet and torn calf. That doesn't mean I didn't miss -- still do -- Cool Running and everyone there. I still hope everyone lands here, including the 50 group. I've learned an awful lot from that bunch, so 50 lashes for lurking, but running is what we're all about, isn't it?

Thank you, Dennis, for saying that about "the" thread; really, it's everyone's thread, and I hope others will pitch in and give it a different flavour from time to time. And I think the 40/40 thread is a fantastic idea to motivate people to do more with their running. I'm all for that.

Anyway, I can only speak for myself and invite everyone here. Please, please feel welcome. I hope I haven't given any other impression along the way. If I have, I sincerely apologize. I've learned so much since I joined CR a while back. I hope I can pass a smidgen of what I've gleaned over the years along to someone new.

Heh. I guess it wasn't so difficult to put into words after all.

I'm staying here....possibly only with choovie, riley, & Ksrnr as company.....
CR B & B just got too large at the end....and fortunately for you fellow posters, I won't go off on my usual anti corporate rant , so you can keep reading.

stick around Tramps, you're more than welcome here, the Tom McCall comment wasn't directed at you anyway. Change is inevitable. Speaking for myself only as another former "CR outsider / misfit", I didn't want to see our little core pool of 20-30 people, where I knew everybody, swallowed up in the gigantic CR ocean, complete with CR high drama. Others put it more eloquently, but I'm just a CC drop out who flunked HS english.

And while I'm prattling on here......., Marie..........where are you??

Personally I don't feel any less welcome in here as in RA. I like the format here better and it is the fastest. The readability is easier and the screen reformats correctly when I change the window width. I also appreciate that a change was made to put this on a dedicated server to accomodate us.

It is sad that coolrunning is breaking up, but when it was sold out to active, the handwriting was on the wall and I wasn't surprised to see the outcome. Could be a good thing though as I think CR was getting to big, to many people.

I don't think that I can keep up with 3 forums and will need to choose. Active is probably out and I am leaning towards KR's. Don't know if I will make a firm decision but rather fall in with one or the other.

SS, Could you rephrase that post for clarity (jk).

I think this whole thing is being belabored beyond need. I am not swearing off any site, or pledging allegiance to one either. I'll probably settle on a daily thread somewhere, and hopefully make some new friends. And if I need to connect with someone I'll know where to find them. If someone needs to find me, I'll have a profile on all three sites with an email (there are only three, right?).

Certainly people are the most important. If several of the folks from CR had not started participating here, I doubt that I would have stayed. We have a good group here now, with varied backgrounds and reasons for running. And we're growing.

By the way, I don't mean to say that all the good folks came from CR. Although some of us knew each other before KR, I hope we are an inclusive and friendly group regardless of past or current lives on other boards.

Outside of the people, there are two things I really like about KR. One is the fantastic software. It is top-notch, and I understand that Rich intends to keep it up to date.

The other thing is how accommodating the owners have been. They have gone out of their way to make this an outstanding site, most recently by investing in a dedicated server. They often consult the users about changes and improvements to the site, and they take the feedback seriously.

You are right on that! That Eric guy is a hard worker too. I am all for patronizing the small businessman (or hobbyist as the case may be). Not that I am saying Active is all bad. (maybe 99% heh).

Anyway, Thanks Rich and Sierra!!!!
Hi folks,
I am with those who will follow the core group to wherever they will end up. All this change happened around the same time I took an almost 3 month hiatus from posting, so I don't feel I should be a major decision maker in this. My impressions: I like the KR forum, it has a similar feel to it as CR had, but with a couple great improvements. However, I am now using the RA log because I was able to upload my training data on it from CR with no difficulties. I like the format of it, too. I am fine with using different sites for logging and participating on the board. Active? Not for me, thanks...
In summary, as far as community goes, I will be where the majority of CR Boomers frens will be.
I never was part of CR B&B and have been here since I graduated from the C25K on CR...so I will just be here. You all have made me feel welcome and I am not intimidated in the least to ask my beginner type questions to all you Masters! I get a lot of inspiration from the Masters Club. I have never heard of RA and will probably not go check them out since I am happy here. I use SportTracks with my Garmin for a log so I am not looking for an on-line version, but they do have a log being developed for KR. It's being BETA tested now. If the log is the deciding factor you might want to wait a little to what it looks like.

I'll post in here and other places.
I like the concept of multiple sites for a loosely or tightly knit collection of groups of people that have distinctive flavors where everyone has both comfort and challenge zones.
I truly want RA, to become a fertile ground for the blowing seeds of CR B&B. A true community is not always easy or fun, but it can always help us to become the better part of our potential if we contribute, listen, and learn.
I'm still learning about running and just being the Human I Am.
To you from CR B&B and to my new friends here at KR and future friends at RA and wherever, I am deeply grateful for your help on both accounts.
For now, this is my home, but in a sense we are all each others homes,

or something like that.
Oh - and Rindaroo - what are you riding in your thumbnail... my son and I are new to dirt bikes, but having a blast with them.
