I can hear all you northeasterners laughing at me already!! But here goes... It's going to get COLD in Austin tonight and I have a 100 mile ride tomorrow.

Sigh...I'm a huge cold weather wimp. When I signed up for IM Cozumel I was fully prepared for training through the scorching Texas summer, but I kinda forgot about the last 4 or 5 weeks when it might get cold.

So according to the forecast it should be ~45 when we start and ~75 when we finish. (for those of you thinking "that's perfect riding weather, pretend I said 25 and 55 seriously, I'm a wimp, I wear a coat when it's 75) We're doing 4 loops, so we'll be near the cars every 26 miles, so layering and then dropping things off is a good option.

I'll definitely do my balaclava under my helmet, thick wool socks with thin socks under and a fresh pair of socks at the car, gloves are an issue, I don't have full finger cycling gloves, but I think I can find some thin regular gloves that will fit under my riding gloves. It shouldn't be super windy, but a wind jacket is an option too.

Anything else?? Any advice from those of you who do ride in cold weather is appreciated!

100% tights for the first loop.. after that, up to you. You don't want your legs that cold for the first 25 or the lst 75 will suck.. also, bring logs of dry clothes. if you get cold the dry clothes will help more than anything.

Got any booties to keep your feet warm? Those things are awesome!

Heck, if you're passing the car every 26 miles, just throw every piece of clothing you own in there. Ride 26 miles, reconfigure the clothing, ride another 26, reconfigure, etc.

Careful with putting too much socks inside your shoes....if you make your shoes too tight, then your feet will be cold no matter which socks you have on. Thin wool socks with booties over top. If it is really cold you can put one of those chemical hand/foot warmers between your bootie and your shoe. I hate cold feet.

I agree with Bannon on putting a bunch of extra stuff in the car. That's the beauty of doing loops....you can take as much stuff as you want and change it out at every loop if you want.

BOOTIES!! Genius!! I forgot those things existed, I've never needed them. I knew there was a reason I'm friends with all you cold weather peeps (besides your awesomeness!) Bet I can pick some up tonight after work. I assume they're simple to use, but if you have any tips let me know.

Booties are great! Just be sure that if you and your riding partner have identical booties (except for size and cleat cut out) and you are riding solo, that you verify that you have a TRUE PAIR. Two left booties are pretty useless. Not that I would do anything that stupid or anything...

Seriously, pretty much dress for the actual temp. I prefer a jersey that I can unzip for cooling. Wear cycling gloves with regular gloves over top. Regular socks only. Too thick of a sock will cut off circulation, plus you won't be able to wiggle your toes.

Shed layers as needed since you will be at your car every 25mi.

DRY CLOTHES are a must for when you finish.
