Does anyone else get a splitting headache when they swim? I'm not prone to headaches....hardly ever get them....so this is driving me crazy.

I just started training for my first Tri in October. I'd say 80% of the time I get a splitting headache 10 minutes in to my morning swim. This morning I even took a couple of aspirin before the workout...didn't seem to help.

Could it be a reaction to the chlorine or other chemicals in the pool? Is this a pool you swim in regularly, and have you experienced this in other pools as well?
Are you drinking water or beverages before swimming to ensure that you are not dehydrated? I read an article in runners world that suggested that headaches could be brought on by not being properly hydrated.
We did this one recently:

Swimming Headaches
Thanks for the replies. Based on that other thread you linked to my guess is that it's due to either 1.) dehydration (i get out of bed and go straight to the pool....don't drink any water) or 2.) lack of oxygen.
I posted the same question a few weeks ago- I think in my case, my neck was not very relaxed. Now, when I feel a headache coming on, I roll my neck a bit in the water and concentrate on keeping it relaxed- it seems to have done the trick (mostly).
Sometimes pressure on my head bothers me. If my helmet, goggles, or cap are really tight, I can get a headache.

I don't swim with my helmet btw...but I think you can figure that one out.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
