<p>Harmon Killebrew just released a statement that he's giving up on his esophageal(sp?) cancer treatment and going into hospice.  A hero of my (relative) youth - a massive man of formidable home-run power (with a rep for being a real stand-up guy).  Good luck to you, Killer, and thanks for everything.</p>

<p>I read that story about 15 minutes ago. Word to all you said, not to mention he was a rarity (not so much then as now) in that his whole career was with just one team.</p>

<p>He was a gentleman and my first baseball hero until the Expos came along.  They called him "Killer", but that was partly in gest, partly because he was a danger to outfielders on his line drive blasts.</p>

<p>I heard, and this might be an urban legend, that his silhouette was the pattern for the MLB logo.  That's leaving an indelible mark for you...</p>
