Snowboy's thread got me thinking - how many of us have acted violently towards another person, with the purpose of inflicting pain on them?

Has it happened more than once? What age were you? Do you regret it? If you haven't done this, do you think there is a point/situation that would push you to act violently?

No, but I've been slammed in a car door and beaten with a broom handle. Who knew I was that irritating?

Besides any picking on or random hitting that my brother and I did to each other when we were little I can only think of one instance where I was provoked to do "harm" another person. I was 14 and this girl in my class in HS would constantly walk by and tug my hair. Finally one day after she did it I grab a big handful of her hair and tugged back. I was completely appalled with myself that I did that, but she never did it again. Now I wouldn't have the balls to do anything like that.

12th grade. A boy, about my size was picking on a girl (again) who was a freshman. Probably 5 feet tall and 90 pounds and a personality to match. Very shy, introverted. I finally had enough, grabbed him by the throat and put him up against the lockers and told him he'd better not mess with her again. He didn't. No, it didn't bother me. I'd do it again.

Oh yeah, that reminds me! This once when I was, like, 22, I walked out of a bar drunk and very angry after watching the woman I had been dating start totally coming on to another woman. And then, I punched a mail box. That was really stupid, and I'm lucky I didn't break anything. But my hand was sore and bruised for a couple of weeks.

For years, whenever I'd walk by that particular mailbox, I would smile ruefully.

When I was 20, I was at a Knights of Columbus dance in Piqua, Kansas. There was a guy there who kept asking me to dance, and finally I dance with him. His girlfriend came after me on the dance floor while we were dancing, started calling me names, all of which were inaccurate (whore, slut, skank, etc.). I punched her hard in the jaw, knocking her to the floor. She didn't get up for awhile, and she didn't bother me anymore. Upon reflection, I should have punched the guy, who after all shouldn't have been hitting on me if he was there with his girlfriend.

There was alcohol involved.

Thereafter, my cousin Clint, who was visiting that weekend, called me The Beasty Woman.

One of the symptoms of my depression manifests as rage. A nearly uncontrollable rage, blinding, unthinking, and absolutely terrifying.

I am so scared of really hurting someone that I never allow myself to act on my anger in any sort of a physical way, because what if I can't stop?

A good punching bag has proven to be invaluable to me for that reason.

My best friend and I used to fight a lot when we were kids.

I think the last fight I ever got in (out of anger) was defending that same friend (he was an instigator to the n-th degree). I tried to talk a bully out of beating him up, but the bully punched me in the face. Made me bleed. So instead of continuing to talk reason at that point,... I kicked the crap out of him.

I was probably 12.

Beyond 12, I got in a couple of fights in college when I was working in bars. Mostly defending myself against drunks

I honestly cannot think of any time I have ever been so angry that I would turn violent on a person.

I've wanted to. Many times.

But mainly I will hit stuff or throw stuff.

I once dropped keys on the ground when I was so mad at DH.. they landed on his foot. He kicked them upward and they got stuck high up in a tree.

I was soooo mad at the time. But really.. it turned into the funniest thing that has even happened to us during a fight. We laugh about it now.
