Nice running Pink! eta: too late on the candie caution. Have been enjoying way too many tootsie rolls this week.

Julie and I spent yesterday bike riding the Tour de Gruene near San Marcos, TX. 39 degrees at the beginning and our fingers and toes were awfully cold. Sun came up but always just off the road. First stop was at about mile 10 or so and we warmed up and then were in sun most of the rest of the ride. Beautiful ride along the Guadalupe river. This is where thousands come every summer to float the river and drink beer. Probably a few floated later in the afternoon but the water would have been pretty cold!

Gruene is gorgeous John, glad you had fun.

TW, what KS said, wish it were easier on you but you do persist as your tagline says.

Intended to go long and slow, since I raced yesterday, but instead ran 4.4 at 9:05 pace as I am in a hurry today. Off to Cowboys Stadium to see the game, although far more interested in how my Jets do.

I'm having breakfast here tomorrow with Daave, as he stops through DFW on his way home from Chile to Detroit. Doesn't everyone?

Then I fly out myself to Cleveland and will be on the road all week.

Mariposai should be done by now. Hope she had a great time. Spareribs

All kinds of travelling from the crew today. I went to watch a regional xc meet yesterday but it wasn't quite as fun when you can't run around and watch the whole race unfold. I got to see one of the top runners in the state who ran 14:57 for 5k!!

I was getting a little worn down so I took the day off yesterday from working out and slept in a little today.

I thnk I"m done running for the year after having a great season of racing. I ran races all last winter and really didn't enjoy it that much so I am going to stay inside on the eliptical this winter. I might do a little treadmilling when my foot feels better and then get back into it for next summer.

Hey tom, there's nothing like a well placed f-bomb to make the body behave. I do it all the time in races. Those pesky body parts need to be shown who's boss!

Nice run Pink. I like the barefoot part.

Wow ksrunr, 39°F must seem like a shock to you. But sounds like you had a very pleasant ride.

Ribs, say hi to dAAve. I miss his posts a lot. I know why many of the former lady Kick Masters relocated to Facebook (privacy concerns), but I never understood why dAAve and millbot did. I guess we aren't as entertaining.

Nothing for me today as it's a scheduled rest day. The four-day per week running schedule has proven to be very beneficial for me this year, so I'll just keep at it. Tomorrow I'll begin targeting my training for a half marathon I'm running in six weeks. I'm going to have to work around one week where I won't be able to run due to a surgical procedure I having on November 12th. But I think if we have decent weather on race day, I could run sub-1:30. That will make me happy.

A long ride along the Guadalupe River with John & Julie sounds like something I should do sometime. Just need the right bike. Last time we were there, it rained & we were camping so the kids weren't too happy about that.

I have mixed feelings about my run. As I laced up my shoes, I thought I'm going to suffer a little from detraining and that is what happened. The plan was to run 3 miles slightly under tempo pace. My best baseline for that was my half marathon pace from ours here in April, so I used that, about 8:42. After a mile warmup, I picked it up a little and ended up with 8:47 pace at 2.68 miles. It felt like tempo pace, and I hit the lap button and did a cooldown. So my half marathon pace is now my 10k pace, I guess. I suck at 10k's so that's probably nothing new!

Hey Labduck, guess who I was rooting for last night? DD & I handed out candy while I watched the OU game.

Lab, I'm on FB too, but a lot of my friends are non-runners, so I don't bore them with all the running stuff. It's only you guys here at Kick that get it. FB is more of a privacy issue for me actually, as my real name is there and well, there's only one of me in North America, so I'm really easy to find! I know dAAve disappeared due to injuries, but not sure why Millbot deserted us. I miss them and quite a few others, too.

WTG on your first 20 miler, Laura! I hope that hip holds out for you.

Nice racing, Bap!

6.9 miles for me on the local trails. Felt wonderful to get back in the woods...... lots of leaves down on the paths, but thankfully there are only a few nasty rocks and roots. It started to rain a bit on the return route, then the rain turned to snow during the last mile.... ick.... first of the year! The hamstring/glute was still achy, but didn't get worse and didn't affect my stride, so it's all headed in the right direction.

DH is carving our pumpkin, and I must get out to put up the barriers to keep the kids out of my garden. Bought the candy at the last minutes so DH wouldn't eat it all before tonight!

I haven't run for a while (7 weeks now ), but I hope to get back to it soon. Sorry, hanging around a running forum can be a downer when you're sidelined.

Opie - why are you trying to run tempo paces when you've been "detrained" for so long. You shouldn't expect to run those paces. It'll come back soon enough.

Lab - I'm sure you have a sub 1:30 in you.

Nice race BAP and you too Paul.

9mi hilly not ez not recovery 7:50 pace. felt like hammering after yesterday's so-so race... and it felt ok. cracked 310 for october... and looking at two more heavy months ahead.

ribs, say hi to daave for me too. pump him about his work... he's certainly that great natural professor type who will educate you effortlessly over a stack of pancakes. and a beer. of course you realize that you're setting a dfw lay-over precedent.

apparently tonight is halloween... it's all i've heard about all weekend long from the 4-foot vampir-ess formerly known as protosun. cause a lady vampire is called a vampir-ess, obviously.

I love layovers at DFW! Never been there in time for breakfast, but the afternoon stops for a visit and a glass of wine are awesome! Please say Hi to dAAve for me, too. Still get a shudder at the thought of driving over ditches and gullies in a big white van...

Have fun with the vampir-ess, mc. Makes perfect sense to me. I sorta miss those years when the kids were so excited about it. They don't seem to really care now. We rarely get trick-or-treaters, so never get more than a bag of snickers miniatures. This year we haven't even done that, but will probably have to get something this afternoon. We just remembered we have a 6 year old and a 2 year old living downstairs now. Oops...

Opie, like ksrunr said... what the heck are you doing? Easy base-building is the order for you. Where is Brooke??

Mariposai did finish her marathon in Athens and I sure hope she had a good time. What a good trip she's had! I'm green with envy. Can't wait to hear all about it!

I'm still waiting for it to warm up. It was -2° this morning downtown, and only 12° here at the house. It's warmed up to a whopping zero downtown and 17° here... Brrr. Well, better get it over with but after I find my warmer gloves. Like Rip, I'm looking forward to not running outside so much and will be doing a lot of XT this winter. Not feeling so bad about missing Boston, but will sure miss all the fun times that goes with it.

This is my last run of any distance before the marathon. I'll run a little Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday is a travel day, hope to run with irunmike on Thursday, then hang out with LaTortuga and ProFromDover, and some RA peeps. The marathon on Sunday will be icing on the cake!

Because I've been paying Brooke plenty of money to coach me and that was on her schedule. She said it was "very optional" so of course I took the option. She got married yesterday but gave me a month's plan a week ago.

Good afternoon. I got dressed to run this morning, but when this morning's breakfast threatened to return, I changed into civilian clothes and called today a wash. No, don't offer any {{{}}}s, this was all my doing from the night before. Much wine and other beverages were consumed, 'nuf said. So I'm closing out my month on a hangover-driven rest day, 4 miles short of qualifying for the 40x40 thread, 7 miles short of a monthly PR and 17 miles short of breaking 200 for October. Hey, it could happen....

But on the positive side... today is the first rest day I've taken in 10 days, so I think I'm well overdue. I also noticed my YTD miles was 1100 -- how's that for a nice round number!

There's comfort in numbers, so sue me.

It hardly seems like Halloween today. No one's rung my doorbell all day. mc, bring the vampir-ess over here for trick-or-treating, I've got a huge box of Skittles waiting.

Actually, the rest day feels really good, now that my head and stomach are finally happy with me again. Of course I just had a pack of the above-mentioned Skittles, oy.....

Tom, you have the persistence and patience of a saint. . . not to be confused with The Saint of course. No one can match her.

Oregon had a good day yesterday. Wish my son's football team would have. They lost their championship 18-7 against an undefeated team. It was good old boy inner politics and favoring for sure. The coach of the winning team is the brother to the athletic director of the boys &girls club and the head referee is the brother to the assistant coach of the winning team. Funny how they never got a flag on any of their penalties (and there were a few!) and we got called on plenty of stuff (some justified, some not). The game was so stacked against us and even our players could see how obvious it was. pretty sad when that's the lessons you are teaching. Anyway, football is now done. I have one battered, bruised and somewhat angry young boy, but he'll get past it. Maybe some halloween candy tonight will work.

I'm going back to MN next summer and thinking maybe I should have a layover in DFW also. That seems to be the gig right there. Of course, we are driving back, so that's a bit out of my way.

Choovie - did the chap in the sleeves and mask have his own eco system ?

Laura - I was wearing XC spikes :¬)

Today saw me run 32.8kms or in simple terms 82 laps of a 400 metre running track. Next Saturday I am racing a track marathon so I thought I better run on the track for a bit. Did 2 efforts at possible marathon pace and it looks like I will probably run 95 - 105 seconds a lap and if all going well pick up later in the race and if not just slow down and mark another one on my list.

We were invited to a kids halloween party by a friend and it is a funny thing as we are the only friends without kids. Blimey young kids are noisy !!!!!

No Halloween at home as nobody came to the door.
