<p>So, I bought some snappy black/yellow splash handlebar tape to redo the bars on my yellow and black bike.  Turns out, it's not the adhesive variety.  Any tips/advice for using it?  I've got my roll of black electrical tape at hand.  I've watched some videos on YouTube and everything seems straightforward, especially since I don't have to deal with hoods (I've got aero bars with bar end shifters).  Still, for some reason I feel like the non-adhesive tape might be more tricky to work with than the adhesive tape.  I know it's vain, but I really want the black/yellow splash tape!</p>

<p>It's easy! Just make sure that first wrap at the end of the bar is good and tight and make sure when wrapping that you overlap about half the width. The great thing about the non-adhesive type is if it isn't right the first time, you just take it off and do it again.</p>

<p>I have the exact same kind only mine is red and black. Another handy tip....in about a year when it is looking all faded and grungy but otherwise still in good shape, you can just take it off and flip it over so the side that was facing in now faces out and it looks like new again.</p>

<p>the main thing is to stretch it a bit as you roll it onto the bars and try to be consistent with the overlapping so it's smooth.  Pull it about as hard as you'd do to tear a slice of pizza away.   I'm always having to unroll mine and redo it, just do your best and realize you can always just do it over next week it it gets messy.</p>

<p>I have some of the new grippy tape on one of my bikes and it's pretty good stuff.</p>

<p>Thanks, everyone!  Good point about being able to redo the nonadhesive tape more easily than the adhesive stuff.  The yellow on the tape doesn't actually match very well the yellow on my bike (I know, I know, but...) so I just did the bars with the brake levers 'cuz they *really* needed to be re-wrapped.  Standing over the top tube, I wrapped the right side counter-clockwise and the left side clockwise so that the tendency of my hands to "rotate out" on the bars has minimal effect on unwrapping the tape...I read that somewhere and it seemed like a good idea.  Should work out well...at least better than the old tape which had become more electrical tape that handlebar tape!</p>
