Hola! Man, I really wish I could find a half marathon that started at 9 or 10 in the morning! This getting-up-at-3am stuff bites! Anywho.. I'm certainly not expecting to do my best on the event, but last night I remembered that my heath right now is still better than what a lot of other people have - so with that in mind, I'll run the best that I can today.

(holy run-on-sentence, Batman!)

Best of luck to our other racers today. Shake a leg, people!

I am right there with you, Ailarie. Up early for a half. It is an inaugural race (with a full and a 10K) and is sold out. It starts at 7:45, but I will need to leave here around 6:30 to make sure I can park and get to the line on time. I look forward to virtually racing with you this morning - good luck and have fun! It is 40 degrees and perfect out here! I am not expecting a PR either, but I'd like to stay under 1:45. Fingers crossed.

I had crappy sleep and cRaZy dreams - some of which were race-anxiety related. For example, at one point I was late and trying to get to the start (which had already started) and had to climb through a huge caged area with lots of different types of alligators. Oh yeah, and I was barefoot because I didn't know where my shoes were. Ultimately I saw myself cross the timing mat - and I admit it was weird watching myself run. But it wasn't all running - there were a lot of crazy cats (and kittens) in my house and some unidentified family member was bringing people in to show our house to sell it while we were all sleeping.. Good times in the mind of mindi on crazy sleep nights....

Happy Saturday, peeps!

Nice job, Bob! And good luck Cindi! Ailarie, I hope the half went well.

I kicked my race in the @ss!! WOOOOOO HOOOOO! Seriously, you guys have no idea how much I needed that. I was pretty concerned about having a crap race, so I went out nice and conservatively. Ended up with a big negative split, with the latter miles in the 7:20s and 7:30s. Oh, and the final stretch was at a 5:48 pace!!! Finished with 1:39:48, which was good for an age group win! Take that 1:45 goal! Still a good 3 minutes off my PR, but I felt great the whole time, finished really strong, and am smiling from ear to ear. The finisher medal is a cool skull and cross bones too. We are heading up to Capitol Brewery at 2:00 pm for lunch and awards. Oh, did I mention: WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!! (okay, enough over-celebrating).

Congrats Cindi and Ailarie! I agree 5Ks suck. People constantly tell me I should be able to run 5K a lot faster than I do, but I can't. Bob - that is super fast - just ahead of my PR (which, incidentally, I haven't come close to in a LONG time). Ailarie - I echo Kath - that is awesome!

Check out my A/G award from today:

Final results came up and I was 14th woman out of 610. Not too shabby!

Craney - the mud run is tomorrow - I'll let you know how it goes. Who is your friend? Ryan G? I think I know most of the organizers pretty well. Small world.

Cheers.

Hmmm, I actually don't know Russ. Is he with Race Day Events?

Hey, check this out: Today, my bib # was 923. Tomorrow, my bib# for the mud run is also 923. What are the chances? A good omen, no? I think James and I are going to have a great time. He already told me he needed to go to bed early to get ready for his race. Attaboy.

Holy cow, Moonie! That looks awesome! I cannot wait to do the mud run today. How cool is this: yesterday, my bib# for the Haunted Hustle Half was 923. Today, it is also 923. Good omen, no? James is so thrilled too. This should be awesome (yet a bit cold!) - we cross a stream in the first half mile - it is 30 degrees! Woo!

Rawr Ailarie! Awesome.

OMG. That was THE MOST FUN RACE EVER. Seriously. It was FREEZING at the start (literally 29 degrees) and they had waves so we had to wait forevah to start. A half mile in you had to cross a waist deep stream (more like chest deep for me) and I was worried it would be awful for James. Nope. It was so.much.fun. Our friend Jeremy ran with us - thankfully he was tall and able to give James a piggy back across the stream). James ran the entire way and had a total blast. I highly recommend doing this type of race if you've never done it.
