Hey, has anyone ever sold books to 1/2 price books. I'm trying to pare down and as opposed to donating my books, I'd much rather sell them for the scrilla.

I'm pretty much a book snob and only have hardbacks. Has anyone ever sold to HPBs before? What is the per book buyback for hard back books average? Five bucks???

oh man...not much at all...I took several boxes and only got 20 bucks, and some were quite new...probably have better luck selling on amazon...but that would drag things out...I want to unload a couple thousand cds but I don't want to drag it out either...

You probably won't get as much as $5/book actually. It's been more like $1/book usually and less if paperback. I don't buy the trendy books very often, though, so YMMV.

oh my goodness, that makes me even sadder! $1/book???? What's the use in my having stocked up on hard backs and taken good care of them all these years if they don't resell for anything!!!

I sell back there all the time. They actually tend to pay less for hardbacks than paperbacks because hardbacks are much harder for them to resell. If they are novels and the hardbacks arent very recent you will likely get less than $1 per book but its cash.

Last time I sold back a big bag of paperbacks and got $12 which I spent in their store immediately.

Hard backs are not what used book stores make their money on. Here you can get good money for paperbacks in really good condition but not at half price books...they pay less because they arent as picky.

FWIW, I don't see HPB as a means of earning quick cash. You are probably better off selling blood plasma for that. It is a good way to clear my bookshelves if I don't have somewhere to donate the books, however, since I refuse to throw books away. The couple bucks I might make is just a bonus.

as for the books:

I've not gotten diddly or squat when I sell my [HC or PB] books.

No big deal....if someone will love reading them as much as I did, then I'm a happy PortyMum.

Donation might be a better like Gumbee mentioned. The few books I buy that I don't want to keep I pass on to friends at school or take to the Swap shop - we have a revolving library pretty much free. Or I donate them to our town library for the shelves or the Friends of the Library book sale ( This weekend $5 /bag ! )

I can get almost any book I want at the library. The only one I bought in the last year because there was a waiting list was Julie and Julia... which went in and out of the Swap Shop last Saturday in a10 minutes !
