What non-running activities do you currently participate in?

Any others you would like to get started doing?

This will help us find "virtual" training buddies and ID people who might have answers to our questions ... such as the 1,001 road cycling questions I am about to start asking!

Here are mine:

Currently participate in yoga (teach and practice), pilates (teach and practice), weight training (teach but shamefully slack off in this dept.), indoor cycling (teach spinning as well as use the stationary bike), and swimming. It won't happen as long as I live in North Carolina, but I grew up cross-country skiing and love to snowshoe. I am a brand new road cyclist as I just bought myself a bike as a 35th b-day present.

For starters, I plan to complete a sprint triathlon this year. I'd also like to get back to paddling, hiking, and learn to play a passable game of tennis.

Thanks for the warm welcome, SGH. The new board is great! And you are inspiring with all that you do.

As for me:
elliptical machine
weight lifting
step aerobics (used to teach; still catch a class now and then)
rollerblading
tennis (have to play more often)
golf (infrequently)
wakeboarding (just learning)

I used to teach step aerobics, too (as well as high-low). Then I started running and yoga, and lost all interest in grapevines and 8-counts.

there is just something so fun about flying around the step (I taught a really fun advanced class). and I love the 8-counts! always fun when an odd transition in the music means you have to throw something in to your combination

SGH,
This looks like a fun place!
May I post here even tho I don't belong to a gym!?

~I still do step...only now, they are part of my killer intervals rather than the routines of the olden days.~

Every Kickrunner can belong to this gym. No joining fee or membership dues!

The forum may have "Gym" in the name (and that might change), but it's for talking about any non-running activities, whether or not they take place in a gym.

I do the following
Inline Skating
Cycling
Stairmill
Stair Stepper
Elliptical
Weight training in the weight room
Weight training in classes, they call it total body or body pump depending on equipment
Kickboxing
Was doing Pilates till I had surgery last year and never started back but want to try to fit it in. Problem with my gym, I get out of work at 4- not early enough to make the 4:30 pilates classes. No excuse though I have a DVD and they have it on cable TV On Demand for free.
Step....not so much anymore but will do the occasional class. I hurt my foot doing step, PF that took six months to heal so cautious about classes now especially if they have the tempo too fast.
I would love to do Spinning but my gym doesn't have a studio.
Used to do Yoga, but the classes they had that I could make were late and I found all I was thinking about was dinner

I mostly just run with the occasional stationary bike workout for crosstraining. But I'd like to get more involved in strength training. I've done yoga in the past and enjoy it.

I'll play! I used to teach aerobics (certified for 4 years), and lost interest in group exercise. I like doing my own thing.

I like to ride my bike (either on the road or the trainer). Her name is Streak. She's a Specialized Dolce. I <heart> Streak.

Core work - usually 150 situps 2-3 times per week.

Trying to get back to doing yoga 2x per week.

Hiking the 48 four-thousand footers in the NH White Mountains. I've done 22 so far (in less than 2 years).

I ride my bike, swim, and lift weights. And do the elliptical sometimes.

I'm training for a couple of tris this summer, so I need to be doing more of the biking and swimming.

Bicycling, hiking, weight training. Occasionally I'll use indoor cardio, but that's more if I have to exercise... the others are just fun to do!

My weight training is mainly free weights, but once a week or so I'll venture into a gym.

I would love to do a tri, but I can't swim... and all the du's I see have people waaay better/more serious than I.

Elliptical
stationary bike
strengthening exercises (for my hips and legs)
pushups (the full guy type)
crunches and core work
weights (pretty heavy upper body, light for lower body, mostly machines but some free weights)

I also downhill ski in the winter.

I'd love to try spinning sometime but it just doesn't work with my schedule.

I may have to cut the elliptical and try the stairmill sometime. I've heard its an awesome workout.

Thanks for reminding me -- I love skiing, too. And ice skating. And snow shoeing.

I wonder why I didn't remember those? Maybe b/c it's 90 degrees outside already?
