I will not complain that the second run was only a mile (and a short mile at that).

I went into this thinking that I was quite disadvantaged with a race that was a 3 mile- 32 mile- 1 mile. (and the 32 mile was 33+).

I came into transition at sub 18 and then totally sucked getting my shoes off. My husband was racked next to me and I got there before him and he was out the of the area before I unracked my bike.

So........the bike. There were some all American triathletes at the race, so I was thinking I could hold them off until maybe mile 15, 20. But at mile 4, someone says something and I look to my left and see a woman flash by in pink. I'm thinking "oh my, I didn't think I'd get caught so fast". It was a really windy, so I tried not to pay attention to my MPH and just tried to keep my watts around 170. A second woman caught me around mile 26, there was a tailwind at this point and I decided I needed to crank out 180 watts to keep her in sight. If she left my sight, catching a person with only a mile run would be tough.

I decided to not even try to get out of my shoes, in case I really screwed up and fell. I figured I was 15-20 seconds behind the woman at this point. However, I stopped my bike and I couldn't run in my bike shoes and I took them off in the dismount area with a volunteer screaming at me.

I couldn't get my fast laces to work so my shoes are flopping around on the run. If I could have bent over, I would have taken the darn things off. I catch the woman right away. Thinking that the run would be like last year and go around Lambeau field, I ease back on the run. However, the run was just a little loop...lucky to be .80 miles. I won't complain. But I was expecting 1.3.

Anyway. I was 2nd woman and very happy to break 2 hours. My goal was 2:10. My computer says I biked 20.4 mph (I'm ecstatic, but definitely room for improvement). My husband thought I could bike at 180 watts...I told him I felt my ability was 170-173. Computer says 171. 2 months ago I could only bike 20 miles at 130.

How do ironmen run 26.2 miles coming off a bike????? I wanted to puke after one mile

Congrats. It sounds like you have improved quite a bit from 2 months ago.

Dang, you're fast. And the bike thing looks to be going awfully well.

I was thinking of doing this race. I would have been somewhere in the dust storm behind you.

Nice race, Sue. Sounds like your cycling is really improving.

I've only raced a couple sprint tris, so I am novice at the cycling and curious. You had to hammer it into T2 to maintain contact with 2nd place. I wonder how much faster you can run if you don't hammer into T2 and save the legs a bit.

The duathlon seems like a painfest. Kudos to you for a fine result. I can tell how much you're missing racing.
