Greatest 5K Ever…
So first off this is not my first rodeo. I have run several 5Ks over the last few years, but this is the first one that I made a goal for and strived to actually achieve it. I wanted to PR. Period. I did not have a particular time, but lower than my previous best. Major complicating factor – 80 degree heat and brutal humidity. This is October?!?!?

The race was in a local park and laid out as a double loop. The first mile was fast for me. I don’t normally run anywhere near a 10:30 min/mile. I was feeling pretty good and even started composing this race report in my mind. That stopped pretty quickly.

The second mile included the loop to begin the path back towards the start/finish line. I have never had a racing experience that included actually passing the finish in reverse. Strange feeling. I saw DH (KP) crossing and getting his own PR! Only 1 more mile to go…

The third mile was all about the mental challenge. “I will NOT F*%#ing stop!” The helpful man at the second turn around made it easier by telling me that I had only ½ mile left. “I can keep pace for a stinking ½ mile!” And I basically did. It wasn’t pretty, but I did it.

Chip time 34:00. PR by ~30seconds.

Yes, it is October although it doesn't feel like it.

That's a very solid improvement in your time with the way the weather was.

Great job, Tonya, and congratulations on the PR. 5K's require you to be tough both physically and mentally...and you were both for that race. Way to go!
