I thought I might be hooked after my first triathlon. After this one I can confirm that I am hooked!

Swim: 14:41 (still learning and working on my technique)

Swim + time to transition: 15:46

T1: 2:34

Bike (15 miles): 51:31 (18.6 avg pace)

T2: 1:48

Run: 34:08 (11:01 avg pace; I can run forever but I can't fun fast...grrrrrr)

Total time: 1:45:45

I took 7 minutes off my first triathlon time (and the bike was 3 miles longer)! This is my last tri of the season. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be too many tris after Sept in the Ohio/NKY area.

My hope is to take the winter and really get my swimming where I want it....and cadence drills on the trainer. Once I do that I really feel like I can start the season with a sprint and then move to the Olympic distance. My stretch goal is to finish the season with a Half (gulp).

I can't wait for next season. I am such a newbie.....

Congratulations on your improvement! Nice bike speed. I assume with a name like "Great Ohioan" it was an open water swim ... No reports of panic in the water from the thrashing - so you sound like a seasoned pro already! As long as you can run forever - sounds like the endurance events might be more your thing, and a HIM needn't be a stretch goal. In some ways, I think it's easier to go long at 75%-80% effort than short at 90%...

Thanks Reg! Funny enough, the race was at the Delaware State Park. The swim was in a lake...a very shallow lake. I could have "wogged" (as Ronbo would say) the entire distance. I felt far more comfortable this time around. I didn't panic and went in knowing I was going to get jostled aroud a bit. My longest 50-Mile ultra took me 13-hours. Spending 7-8 hours doing a HIM doesn't scare me at all!

I started the season late (my first tri was mid-August). I don't even know what is out there. I am totally up for suggestions! Don't be skeered of me on the bike. It was a very flat course...

Great job! Off season work a lot on drilling and technique rather than just doing laps. Also you may want to skip the cadence drills and work on some power, maybe a coach Troy set of videos and create your own "pain cave" in your basement or where ever you have your trainer. Sort of two different approaches to get faster in the two disciplines: swim = technique, bike = pain. We're all newbs to some degree.

EDIT to say there is value in cadence drills, but ultimately you want need to ride faster to go faster and that's a function of lifting your power.

Congrats on the improvement and the nice race! Good thing you're hooked, because you've got nowhere to go but up at this point.

Stuff like your report adds fuel to my fires - I'm aiming to get off the marathon bandwagon for a bit and get back to triathlon again

I was looking at the Muncie Endurathlon. But, Ronbo's race report has me thinking about Rev3. I am thinking this one will give me more time to get ready....
