I got my new bike trainer all setup today. I hopped on for 15min after dinner to see what it was like. I swear I was like a kid on Christmas morning. Tell you what, it was hard. It was harder than riding outside. There's no downhill -- it's all uphill or maybe a little flat. I was lucky to hold 14-15mph which translated to 160-200W. For the fun of it I tried going hard and pushed it over 400W but my knee started singing to me so I backed down.

This thing is either going to kill me or give me legs of steel come summertime. I forsee lots of pain and lots of reward. Why didn't y'all tell me about this sooner?

Now I need a good plan.

congrats! too fun, eh? And yeah, it's unforgiving. Take it easy don't push 400w like some of these monsters that post around here - they are aby-normal ... 200w is a LOT for many people. But you need to get used to it and remember where your fitness is at.

No shame in pushing 100w and rebuilding endurance and then work on pushing up the watts.
