I've always tended to assume things don't always work correctly and never put all my eggs in one basket. So I have two checking accounts with two different banks. One I use most of the time and the other pretty much as a savings account and/or just in the case the first one fails for some reason.

Well, the storms last night have apparently knocked my primary account's systems out since around 1:00am. No online banking, no service via phone, even the CSR's cannot tell you anything about your account. I don't know what would happen if I went to a store and tried to use my debit card or needed to get cash out of the bank.

But not to worry. I can't think of anything I need out of my primary account. I can pay bills as easily tomorrow as today and nothing is due until Sunday. My pay check was pending yesterday as it is due today so I'm confident that will be there once the systems are back up. And if I need anything before then I'll get it from the second bank account.

Wow, I never think about how bank systems can be affected like that. Always good to have a back up- for sure.

When we had floods here a few years ago all computer and phone lines were out for about 4 days. I had cell phone service, but had to drive to the top of the hill to use it ( No signal = as we live in a hole between ridges.) Being cut off was disconcerting.

We had nasty storms blow through here a few years ago. We only lost power and phone for about a week. Other areas weren't so lucky. My biggest concern was finding a way to let my online friends know that we were okay!
