Not sure if I got my mojo back, but this song by CAKE fueled my run this morning. I didn't go for a major distance (only 4 miles), and I certainly didn't go for speed, though my splits proved otherwise:

mile 1 - 8:39

mile 2 - 8:32

mile 3 - 8:21

mile 4 - 9:25 (conscious choice for a recovery/cooldown mile)

Thing is, I remember thinking I wasn't running as fast as I could, and that I was happy keeping it at a controlled but brisk pace. Hamstring felt fine. So did the calf. Outside of the foot was starting to feel the brunt of the residual aches, so I tried to keep weight on the inside edge of the foot and even spread out my pinkie toe as I ran -- not an easy task, believe me, even when standing still!

We're off to visit DS late this afternoon for Family Weekend at UMD. I wasn't planning on bringing my running gear (primarily because then I'd have to bring my hairwashing gear), but I might rethink that now. Deep tissue leg massage on tap in a couple hours.... oh boy oh boy

Have a great race, KS. I've lost track of what everyone else is doing this weekend, so whatever it is, enjoy!

hey om, that song is a blast from the past!

9.5mi 8:30 pace some hills. nice run with the tucson meetup.com running group... including one interloper visiting from brooklyn in his last training weeks for the nyc marathon. speedy kid aiming at 2:45-ish!

13.5mi 7:50 pace in the heat last night, so 23 miles in 12 hours. uggg.

Took Lucy with me for 2.2 on the dirt, and she kept me from running too fast. Like 11 minutes a mile! Knee felt okay, so slow is good.

I've never been much of a Cake fan, but their newest song, Sick of You, is my current weekly favorite. I do hear Going The Distance and Short Skirt Long Jacket about once a week.

Now cake donuts are completely different! I had a plain cake and a raised glazed this morning. I made sure to let the Donut Lady know I won't be in next Friday since I'll be in Arizona. See you next week mc. And nice double btw.

Go ksrunr go!

I'm glad the knee is doing better Ribs.

Rest day for me in preparation for tomorrow's 15K. It starts at 11:00 am, which is kind of an odd time to me.

Go, KS, go! GL fren.

Wow, OM, those are some speedy splits. Forget the hair gear, just bring a scrunchie.

Nice run, mc.

GL Lab. 15K's hurt the most.

Opie, if they ever replace the swim with yoga in a tri, I'll join in, but you'll have to train me.

At 6am this morning the wind and rain was fierce. I could tell from the radar that in an hour or so conditions would improve, but I didn't have that time to waste, so I went the gym for my LR. What a grind. I hate TM's. I quit after 12 miles and was aggravated the see clearing skies and a rainbow as I left the gym. I got gypped.

What are the speedy ladies in Western MA and NY up to?

Mike, I was thinking I needed a swim in my workout last night so I could try a tri. That's a lot of miles on the treadmill! Hey, all you Massachusetts people, you know Paul is there this weekend for the Bay State Marathon in Lowell, right?

Mike: hair gear is shampoo, conditioner, smoothing serum, lite styling creme, blow dryer, flat iron and soft spray. A scrunchy just won't cut it.

Otherwise, instead of looking like this:

.

.

.

.

.

I'd end up looking like this:

nice run this morning OM!

I don't think I could get lazier this week if I tried .

only working a few more hours and then it's company bowling and beer time. I don't think I'll burn many cals bowling. . . especially if I'm drinking beer too.

OM, the strains and nomojo are classic signs of overtraining. Just take a few steps back, dial back the mileage, and regroup. Good tuneage!

I ditched my yoga class today and am doing nuthin'. I'm ramping up next week big time, so now's not the time to go nuts.

But I had to show up to wish that sassy curmudgeon Labduck a good race.

ksrunr can be a bit of a sassy lad too, so another GL to you!

As we were leaving for work yesterday, I asked DH when he's going to put the boat away. He said this weekend. I said hmmm, sure would've been easier a couple weeks ago before the snow. He said I had a habit of blatantly stating the obvious. Heh. Well, I was right. Not like he used the damn thing all summer and it's STILL in the way at the top of the driveway.

OM, those are amazing sproinky miles you had here, but I'm with SS on this one. You've been bitten by the mileage-accumulation bug, and are high on your recent zippiness. Those things in combination (and even by themselves) can be a bit easy to overdo. You've been doing so well, I'd hate to see a teensy weensy injury turn into a real problem.

Good luck and fleet feet to ksrunner, labduck (I think the 15k distance is great!), bty and anyone else racing. I try to scan the race list, but it leaks out of my head before I get very far.

Mike, that's an impressive TM run for a Friday morning. Couldn't the long run wait till tomorrow? I ran on my TM on Tuesday for the first time since spring. Couldn't believe how hard it was. It's definitely something you need to develop a feel for. I had it but it's gone. It's getting about time to get that back though.

Hi Tammy! You have been the poster child for taking it easy this week. Have fun bowling today. Better you than me, I think.

Brought my running stuff to work today. I don't usually run on Fridays, but it's going to be nice here (ok, I know that's a relative term) and I don't have a car, so it's not like I can go anywhere over lunch hour... so I'll go run.

Yikes OM. That' some equipment It's always something huh? I have two friends that get theirs straightened. Costs a bunch but they swear by it. But you can't wet it or put anything in it for I think two days after getting it.

Go get em Lab! And John!

Yuck to the treadmill. And I am a wuss about wind. It was dry this AM but WINDY so I used the elliptical. Tomorrow also, 40 MPH winds predicted so that leaves biking out for me. Going to take advantage of not having to rush out to be somewhere for a change and go for a hike in the woods later on. And Oyster Festival.

Enjoy your bowling Tammy! I used to enjoy the occasional beer at the bowling alley myself.

OM, you remind me of DW. She's naturally curly, so of course she's been fighting nature her whole life trying to keep it straight. It's at least a 1/2hr of her life Every Single Day.

evanflein (I haven't called you that in ages!) I try to get my LR in on Fri as long as golf is possible. Soon enough I'll move it to Sat and have the option to run Sun based on weather forecasts. But for now, my legs (and w/e's) belong to the course.

Paul is doing the Baystate! That was on my sekrit list until I got injured this summer. GL, Paul! It may get windy, and on that loop (2x) course it'll come from all sides eventually.

I answer to just about anything. I forgot about golf. Sent you a PM, btw.

And to think I've got fine straight hair and spend at least that long Every. Single. Day. to fluff it up and curl it. Usually with only moderate success.

4.2 easy effort miles at lunchtime today, on a mix of dry pavement, gravel on pavement (ball bearings!!), ice and snow over ice. Didn't push the pace and picked my way through the slick stuff, over all a nice run. Temps around 22° and felt noticeably chillier with no direct sun after those clouds rolled in. Should be sunny tomorrow, but I see big snowflakes coming down now.

This week's runs were a story in "what will she forget today?" Today it was socks. So I wore my work socks, just lightweight cotton crews. Worked ok, but now I'm sitting here with bare feet in my clogs. Yesterday it was my running bra, so I wore my daywear bra. Not advisable for a daily thing, but worked ok in a pinch. Made for an interesting afternoon, in the most liberating sense. I might need to bring in a supply of "basics" to have at my desk for future bouts of forgetfulness...

Funny, OM........ I've just come out of 2 days of meetings with another company where I had to shed my usual jeans in favour of more formal business attire. And what's been going thru my head................. this! I really like Cake..... especially You're Never There!

Can relate to the hair thing too, as I'm naturally curly. The snarls in this mop are telling me that I'm long overdue for a cut!

Came the closest ever to getting fired yesterday..... apparently my US VP doesn't like me contradicting a decision he made that affects my work, without my input, even when the Canadian management tells him this is what they wanted me to do. Big fight brewing on who gets to call the shots, the Canadians who pay me or the Americans who do my performance reviews. Am trying to lay low for a bit to let it blow over.

No workouts for two days, but the knee is hurting. Must have slept on it wrong or something. Sheesh.

I was able to channel all the energy I saved by not running much this week into my bowling today and ended up as high female bowler (not a single game, but cumulatively all six games we bowled).

Good ride, a little under an hour, so about the same length of time I would have run. Heme, I hope your job situation works out and thanks for sharing. As SS would say, we're world citizens!

I've been lost in work this week so not much running, which I think is a good thing. I did graduate another class of couch-2-5k runners, though. A total of 35 have gone through my work-sponsored class. Most are middle aged and over weight: now they are also runners. Its too early to see big changes, but I am surprised at how the little changes make such a difference.

Good luck tomorrow,Labduck!

opie - I have spent two years thinking of myself as an athlete, just lately I have had the sensation that I may actually be a runner. Not sure how I feel about that right now.

I really like CAKE but I have a feeling I am thinking about something totally different.

Swim Bike Run for me - god I hate swimming but it was balanced by a lovely 6 miles during my lunchbreak and then a suicide session on the rollers. They never get any less dangerous.

6.55AM here so I am off to my race
