Hi Bob! Thanks for starting us off!

Rip, I finally got a chance to go back and read you RR from Tuesday. Congrats on the hardware once again! Looks like you're getting the hang of the trail stuff!

Good luck to Mike and KS for this weekend!

Great to see Erika here yesterday! And OMG......Posie, too!!! Hiya, sisters!

Hi TW! Hi HF!

Welcome back, Roadhawk!

Stay safe, Roly!

I slacked off yesterday, but hit the TM this morning for an easy 2 mile shake out run, with a few short pickups..... in preparation for the last race of the trail series tomorrow morning. Conditions promise to be rainy, windy, muddy, hilly, and treacherous... with leaves almost all down and covering the roots and rocks that'll be waiting to bite us. The RD sent us all an email yesterday, that started out.... "We've reached the final chapter in our story, where the hero kisses the girl and rides off into the sunset. Only this is trail racing, so many of you heroes are going to kiss the dirt and limp off into your cars. Wouldn't have it any other way, right?"

Right, indeed!

Enjoy the day everyone!!!

Hey Heme, just the way you like it, right? Have fun, but do be careful. It only takes one bad foot placing to knock you out of the running, literally.

Good luck to our racers! Although I think the only luck needed will be with the weather. Looking forward to some race reports!

So nice to see Mariposai pop in here yesterday!!

Hey to all the rest of you, too.

Warmer today than yesterday (weatherundergrounds says "much warmer than yesterday") and it did feel pretty mild when I got to work. Like low 30's feels "mild" already. Heh. Looking forward to a RAL, and then maybe a gym workout after work with DH.

Hi all

Podiatrist diagnosed metatarsal problem as Metatarsalgia, which is the generic term for a tote sack full o' problems all involving the ball of the foot.

Bottom line....custom orthodics w/ something known as a "metatarsal bar" & soft cushiony shoes ala Nimbus or the like.

Appt. for custom orthodics is sometime in November.....still no running due to WhateverTF I did to my foot while in Denver 2 weeks ago. Took an x-ray or 2.....ain't broke.

Outlook? Who knows, reduced expectations I'm sure......beats the alternative though.

Johnny, just a thought.... that was my diagnosis as well. My podiatrist said I'd probably not be able to run much going forward, and certainly not without the custom orthotics he wanted me to order. I said "we'll see" and tried the met pad and cushion insoles, took time off for the foot but kept active. Never did order the orthotics (at over $500, thankuverymuch), don't use a pad anymore. That was over two years (and many marathons) ago...

Metatarsalgia, eh?..... yup, a recurring theme here.

The first podiatrist that saw me for it (~2years ago) gave me my second set of orthotics, hated 'em and they did diddly for the pain.

Been using pads like Erika did, so minimal pain with running, but have graduated to a thicker pad and developed a more focused pain in one part of my right foot.

Sports doc said Morton's neuroma back in May.... injections to "calm" the nerve and bigger shoes for the road have helped.

He's now pushing me to try orthotics again.

Will probably just back off on volume for a month or so, stay on the soft stuff and see how it goes. Feels good this week after that all-trail week vacation.
