Hey Gang... I just wanted to remind you that we have forums designed for Race Reports as well as Daily Run Reports.. Remember: Topics of general interest should be posted in the forum which will give it the most exposure. Topics of specific interest to your club can be posted here.

I've moved your Great Race Reports to the Finish Line and have merged your daily run reports to the appropriate day thread in the Finish Line Forum.

I realize you have your rules, but I don't quite get this. Does this mean all the daily threads posted at the 30's board are also going to be moved? Not only are we posting our runs that we did for the day on our daily check-in thread, but we often chit chat about other daily occurrences in there as well. I know for me, I want to be able to just hit the Masters Forum, check in with whoever has posted and then usually head back out.

In the 30s, we do post long race reports in the Race Report forum, but our daily threads are usually just chit chat. We will talk about our runs typically to say, oh I did this mileage today, but it's not the main point of the postings.

ok - so if we want to keep our own daily check in thread, I guess we need to change the title of our threads huh? Have it "appear" to be more chit chatty in nature?

Thanks for the question....

In general, if you create a thread with a specific reason to discuss your daily runs or a specific race - I'd rather have them in the forums which give them the most exposure.. This is done really for two reasons:

The first: It helps with overall management of topics in case someone is looking for information.. For example, if someone is looking for an opinion on a particular race, they could go directly to the Finish line and read the Race Report of someone who's actually completed it.

The second: Race Reports are one of the best motivations for new and struggling runners (as well as experienced).. by keeping them in a specific area, more people (who may not look in here) will have access to them.

I'm aware that clubs have their own daily thread.. and within those threads are discussions and 'race /run' reports...and that is fine as you guys are sharing much like you would in a club environment - with history; your own 'inside' jokes, etc... by all means continue to do so.

To let the rest of your club know the detailed report is in the finish line, there are a couple options.

1. Indicate as much in your daily thread
2. We can put a 'shameless promotion thread' sticky at the top of your club area that will always be there and then you just post a link to the thread of interest. This seems to have worked well in the PRT and we'll be happy to do the same here

Thanks

There's always ways 'around' the guidelines - I'd simply ask you do what is in the best interest of the entire forum and allow as many people on the board to benefit...

Moving a thread isn't a bad thing -it really means we think it is of significant value that others would and should enjoy it!

it's hard to force change on us Masters ya know set in our ways . . all that stuff.

But I understand your reasoning.

I'm a bit confused. Many of us are looking for a home, migrating from CR Boomers and Beyond where the group is 40+ and we discuss all kinds of things via different threads but mainly a daily thread where we mention our daily run and other things. And upcoming races for the "Boomers", etc.. for the Boomers... The comraderee is from the grouping of "older" runners. Is this daily run thread you point us to is for all ages, rather than within the "Masters" "Club"?

Not quite getting this site,
Hey Steve...

It's not intended to 'confuse' or 'frustrate' anyone... you guys just be yourselves.. post what you'd like in your forum.. I just ask you contribute those threads with a broader appeal beyond your group in the other fora.

Race Reports benefit everyone - an entire forum is dedicated to race reports and daily runs... if you want to post your daily runs within your general thread - much like you other groups do - that's fine.. no worries..

It's like the PRT --- race and run reports get moved from there also to the appropriate forum.. the PRT is a 'club' if you will - much like your sub forum is a club...

I will be happy to post a 'promotions thread' at the top of your forum where those who do post their race reports in the Finish Line forum can let you all know about it.

It's a bit different here than other forums around the net.. we actively monitor and manage the place, while letting you be adults (eg.. no word censors).. I just ask that members of the community take advantage of all the community has to offer and post in appropriate forums. If you're not sure, then post it here.. Anytime we move a thread we'll leave a 'redirect' to it.. and again (I know I sound like a broken record) - if we move it, it's not a bad thing..

thanks

........rich//........it's your forum,,,,,,but the Boomers enjoy the comraderie of the Daily Thread for catching up with each other in addition to our runs...

..........it's kind of a Free Association Thread about our lives and our running....

...........we tried a ''Banter'' Thread a few years ago, and it withered after a few weeks.....

.....we all appreciated you making a ''Masters'' Forum for us, I just think seperating our Daily Thread from it will kill it.......

this is just my opinion

Maybe something is missing in the translation here guys.... or maybe I'm just being over sensitive...

This is a runners website.. period.. above all else, this is why the site exists... you can talk about running anywhere and in any thread on this site.. ...

Take the time to go through ALL the forum's set up... You will see each has a theme and a primary focus... When you start a topic, just ask yourself this question:

Would others on the site benefit or enjoy this topic? If the answer is yes, then post it where it will do that.. If the answer is, No, this is just of interest to the Masters Group, then post it in here....

It's really that simple.

And finally, if you look at the two sticky posts in the main area of "Running Clubs", you'll see the conditions of having thes club sub-fora....

If you want to discuss this further or you still have an issue with it, then please PM me and we can discuss it further.

Thanks

I don't want to be too argumentative, but I think the forum is for the people who participate.

There will be groups of people who like to participate in certain forums, like this masters' forum. These people either already know each other from another site, or will get to know each other.

Putting daily runs and even race reports with everybody is ok from a general interest perspective, but the people who are put there will feel anonomous, and I for one won't be as interested in participating.

And maybe everybody isn't interested in everyone else's daily runs and race information. Maybe they're more interested in the reports from people who that have become friends with.

I don't necessarily want to be cliquey (sp?), but I think people should be allowed to "hang around" with those who they want to.

I hate to throw in the towel so early, but there seems to be no room to negotiate on this one The owners/operators of this site can certainly run things as they sit fit, and I'm not going to complain. It was nice of them to invite some of us over, and to create a masters "club" for us.

I like the design of this site, the ease of use, and everyone has been very nice. But, the idea of having to post race reports in another forum, or search for daily masters threads on another forum outweighs the benefits. I understand what the site is shooting for, but it creates a level of inconvenience that I'm not content with. I guess the masters club description can now be amended to "we don't have Pie."

Don't you dare leave us Pie!!! We'll get this ironed out and I predict it'll end up being much like we are already accustomed to. Please don't throw in the towel yet. I'd hate for you to leave because of this relatively small point of contention . . . it'll all get worked out.

You're right. Let's start over.

As a webmaster for another forum I do understand that what you are doing is giving your time so that others may benefit.

This hacking stuff isn't what you signed up for I'm sure, and is a hugh pain in the butt for us but especially for you. That you are dealing with it is much appreciated and I hope you figure out how to lock this site down.

I hope and believe this is going to be a great place for all of us, and that we'll find some equillibrium which we all can happily live with.

Sorry we got off on the wrong foot.

I just wanted to throw in my two cents regarding the race reports.

I LOVE reading the race reports, whether I know the person or not. I'm new to the running stuff and it teaches me a lot when I read others' experiences. I would be very interested to read what you guys have to say about your races. I'd love it if you posted in the Finish Line thread because I don't really want to lurk over here in your "club" trying to find your reports.

I would feel better putting my Race reports in here.It is my opinion if I run a great 5K for my age, people My age will appreciate it more than say a high schooler or a college runner.

I'm not a great runner by any means,so maybe this is a moot point...

Jill - I appreciate you stopping in and giving us your two cents. When I posted my recent 10K RR in the appropriate forum, I was pleasantly surprised that people that didn't even know me commented. And if reading a RR from a relative slow newbie like myself is helpful to even one other runner, then I'm happy to oblige.

Glad to see you guys and gals back! (ALL OF YOU!)

Thanks for the supportive words and your patience with me and the site over the last several weeks - it means a great deal to me - more than you can imagine!

I am looking at some options that will meet both of our 'preferences'.. I hope to come up with something that will work. I do understand a bit better on what you're used to and though this isn't coolrunning and we have our own layout and philosophy, I am open to suggestions and feedback.

Anyway - it's all good. I hope we're up for good now, but after the last couple weeks, I won't feel 100% comfortable for a while!

In the interim, enjoy the place and make yourself at home! You really are all welcome here and we're happy you've decided to give us a go!

best,
