I'll start us off.

Tamster - yes it would bother me to hear you in the dentist chair taking no novacaine.

Shortly after I was married I went in to a new dentist for some dental work. When I arrived I recognized the dental hygenist. She was miss Kansas when I was a junior in h.s. She worked at the grocery store down the street then. She was a gorgeous red head and she was not stuck on herself like you would think. Very friendly. Well I thought I had found my favorite dentist when I saw her. The dentist had to do some work at the very back of my teeth. I told him I had a sensitive gag reflex. He told me not to bite him. I thought that was a strange thing to say. Then he touched my mouth too far back and I bit his finger. I never went back and he never called to ask why. I wonder what happened in her life.

8 miles this morning in a heavy fog. Legs feeling better after Tues long run.

Hi all. Nice foggy run, ksrunr.

Hippo, thanks for that peek into the life of an ultra runner. I hope your feet are healing okay.

RH, good news re. your daughter. I hope that plan works out for you two.

Ken, I second the suggestion to put a race or two on your calendar. That's what keeps me going.

Trying to be conservative and stay off the disabled list, I cut today's run short again, and consoled myself with a lower body and core workout.

I'm not so humbug today Mill, and nice avatar ya got there. I am just a little stuffy and the sneezing has abated to once in a while. Now that I said that I feel one coming on.........look into the light!! Smart of you to cut a run.

Morning ks. Bet you could google that pretty redhead and find out. Scary

I must run and weight train after work as I blew it and my nose off last night.
I did however take a nice walk up a hill in our converted landfill/nature preserve to find a geocache. Taking advantage of the last few days of light when I get out of work.

Rest day for me, but I will definitely be hitting the adidas annual warehouse sale this afternoon. All shoes $25, clothing $5. I don't think many people realize that in addition to Nike being headquartered here, so is the North American headquarters for adidas.

Lab - I wore a t-shirt that had on the front "adidas" in high school. My grandmother never understood why I would wear a shirt that said
"adios" (sp?)

Pleased to see Millbot staying conservative re injury. Don't get antsy.

I'd like to go to the Adidas warehouse sale. LabD, why don't I give you my CC# and you can shop for me? I bought my favorite yoga outfit at an Adidas outlet store in FL and I'd like to get another. We don't have any outlet or name brandname warehouse stores in MT. Rats.

Along the dental topic lines, I fell asleep in the orthodontist's chair when I was a teenager. I woke up when I heard him say, "Could you open your mouth please?" He said I fell asleep and closed my mouth on his fingers. Guess I don't get very tense in a dental chair.

Complete rest day for me

Lab I'm jealous! Nike and Addidas in your back yard...enjoy.

Ken, I agree about having a goal race to help motivate you. This works well for lots of people, as many have noted here. One of those trail races sounds fun.

Hally, I totally agree about the lotion tissues. They really help keep my nose from getting so sore...I hope you're over the worst soon.

KS, funny story about the dentist. My first dentist here in Omaha looked like Michael Douglas. I was always sorry that the only time he ever saw me I was wearing a bib!

As for my tooth, it's more achy today after yesterday's attempt to do a root canal. My dentist tried 4 different things to get it numb and nothing worked. (They each helped some, but then she'd start drilling again, getting a little farther, and I'd get zinged). Hence my appointment with the endodontist on Monday. I'm worried...

As for running, I plan to get in a short 3 miles later today. Have a good Friday, everyone.

Edited to say that I hope you're okay, Millbot.

I feel great today!

30F clear at sunrise
Some trepidation about the foot, but in early morning stretch and system check I could find nothing that could dissuade me running or at least trying a few miles. So I ran from home base instead of the gym

.5 mile walk to trail
3 mile AHR 137 11:25
8 mile AHR 159 9:44 (M-:11)
1 mile AHR 153 10:56
.75 mile walk home

At mile 9 foot did complain, but that was the turn around and the rest was down hill. Foot responded well to slower pace.
I'll put tomorrows miles in on the elliptical just to save myself for Sunday.

It's cooler, but let's not forget out fluids and electrolytes
Still feel great ,
Good Morning All - or almost afternoon . . .

ks - nice 8.
jjj - can you send some of this up north? Glad you kankle held out until the end. Elliptical sounds like a good plan for tomorrow.

My husband was a way on business this week and it put a cramp in my running and any computer time at home! I'll have to catch up on the threads later.

I was going to go for 10 miles - hoping they would be a little speedier than late with the extra days off this week, but no . . . so instead, I opted for a longer run to help with all this Halloween candy I've been eating (2 Reese's PB Cups pre run ). So I trudge through 13 miles. My legs still feel like the last 3 miles of the marathon - minus the crampy calves . . . I hope they bounce back soon.

Good runs to all and GL to any racers this weekend!

Linda - I just happen to have the registration here with me at this work this a.m. because I haven't mailed it in yet. And to be honest, I was having second thoughts about even running in it until Coach Johnny pm'd me with training/racing tips to ensure a PR for me. But I'll be mailing in my registration today. I don't normally register at the higher fee to get the shirt because I have enough of them and all they ever have are cotton shirts at these smaller races anyways, but I think I'll get one this time, so I need to mail it in by monday to do that. So, to answer your question . . . yes, you can just register the morning of the race. It's $10 on race day.

Mill - sorry to hear you are having to cut your runs short. I am glad you are running conservatively and knowing where your limits are.

ks - that's a funny dentist story. I remember one time when I was about 16 or 17 and having a cleaning done. I could not stop giggling. both the dentist and hygenist would have to stop several times to let me giggle, and soon I had them giggling. that was back in the days when the dentist actually took part in the cleaning. Now I rarely see my dentist - just the hygenist. Funny how the bill isn't any cheaper since you aren't seeing the actual dentist though. On the few occassions over the last 10 yrs when I've had a small filling, I just prefer to use visualization to mentally remove myself from the pain. Now, if I were to have a BIG filling, I would want the novocaine - no doubt. I used a lot of visualization techniques and yoga breathing when I gave birth too and was able to do is sans drugs. It's all in the mind baby - all in the mind!

no running for me today. I am going to my chiro and get my back worked on. It's been bothering me lately and the other day, I moved wrong and felt a pop in my low back - so I need something readjusted I guess.

I have 12 miles on tap for tomorrow though - with my coach.

tomwhite and pickles, so happy to hear the good news. Phoof.
millbot, what's going on? Is there more to this you're not talking about?
Labduck, sorry to hear about the soreness. #$)(*#*( pesky injuries.
MS, anxious to hear about the PT.
hally, stay away from people. They emit all kinds of nasty bugs.
runin, hope you find a quick answer to the non-numbing. (Seems kind of odd to wish a quick root canal on someone.)

3 x 20 minutes pool running (1 min rest), 65% effort

KenA, if you're looking at trail running/racing, I'd recommend doing some ankle strengthening exercises.

Good news for the imbibers.

This morning I had physical therapy and then I remained there and did some upper body work (very light). Then off to a work meeting and Chinese lunch with hubby. Now I'm at my desk, but the nice thing is that work shuts down at 4pm on Fridays so I'll be home within a couple of hours. Hooray!

I'm looking forward to a good workout weekend. Tomorrow I'm planning on elliptical and yoga, and Sunday with be walk/jog. Doesn't that sound great? Hopefully we'll take the dynamic duo to the dog park on Sunday too, and I end up running all over there chasing my evil little Remy who has a bad habit at barking at bigger dogs all the time. Stupid little squirt....someday one of the big dogs is going to set him straight.

What about during a strenuous round of golf? Not that I would know anything about that...

SS, my right arch and shin are bugging me. In March/April, I was sidelined with MTSS (medial tibial stress syndrome) due to a slightly flat and overpronated right foot. I had custom orthotics made, "placebo" on the left and arch support on the right. Since then I haven't had any shin pain until the past week or so, and it's not getting better.

Worn shoes might be a factor. I can put ~400 miles on most shoes, but the two pairs I just retired were probably overdue at ~325 miles. They are a brand I had not tried recently.

I'm going to see the PT/orthotics guy this afternoon.

Please let us know how it goes, mill. I'm sorry to hear this.

What about your mileage increase? I know you've been in the 50s lately. Over what time have you ramped that up? Just curious; no judgments.

ETA: Nice going, Pro. Now have a beer. GL on Sunday.
