5 surprisingly effortless miles. Not sure what's up with that, but I'll take it.

Greetings, all.

4M on the hamster wheel last night. Core/weights are on tap today, and I'll probably go ahead and get Sat's miles done this evening, as I've kind of got a busy weekend ahead.

Have a great day, folks!

Nice run, Kath.

Yeah, good luck to all the racers! And TGIF!

I had a nice speedy run last night. 7.5 miles at an avg pace of 7:59. Quite an improvement over all of my recent slow, plodding runs. I'll take it. Hopefully I can get in a slow recovery thing tonight, then something long-ish tomorrow...

morning all Heading up tomorrow morning to see the nephew play football and hang with his family and celebrate his little brother's 6th birthday. We're going apple picking, the to the dairy for birthday ice cream and then to wear all of that off for a hike in the school forest. After all of that I have to go to a SURPRISE 40th birthday party for one of my old Phd guys from Madison so there will be a bunch of people there from school so it should be good fun before the bad 3 hour drive home. blech.

I hope you all are doing well.

Yay Kath and Bob!

Way to get it done, Ail...how far tonight?

Enjoy, Wippi!

Excited about this weekend...it will be great to see Jenn and Nettie and I'm nervy about the 10 miler, but also think it will be weirdly fun.

AND i have a phone back. Not an iphone, but you know...being without any phone and trying to deal with two competing wireless companies was THE PITS. Seriously, insure your phones (and don't forget to make a hard copy list of all your phone number). 5 bucks a month is worth this hassle that took me more than a week to resolve.

KKKKK gotta go... lots to do today...I'm going to the expo this PM so let me know if you guys need any TCM schwag. :)

P.S. Note to TCM sponsor coordinators/stuff managers...your "virtual goodie bag" is the pits, dudes...I mean...really bad...not even one little freebee fun thing at all.

No activity for me yesterday or today, but tomorrow I'm going hiking with SGH and roots down in the Hocking Hills. We are going to hike from Old Man's Cave to Ash Cave (6 miles), and since we will also probably hike around each feature as well, it's going to be a pretty good day of hiking. We will see about running on Sunday, I may need to just get in a good run after work on Monday instead and let my legs recover a bit.

Tomorrow is officially 18 months of being a couple for Moonie and me. Can you imagine?

QOD- probably the best was the Flying Pig. We got a backpack that I use all the time as my gymbag. We also got random other stuff including an event poster. Just a cotton tshirt though unless you paid for an upgrade to a tech shirt. I love the running socks from Grand Rapids too.

QOD: I agree on the Flying Pig backpacks. Love them! My favorite shirt is the long sleeve brooks from Grand Rapids. Bard - I think Flying pig is a tech shirt now. I'll check, it's sadly in the "too small" drawer at my house.

I have a few things I really need to catch up on today, and I am going to use checking in here later as the carrot...

Wait...did I miss Ailarie's birthday yesterday??? If so, I'm sorry! I hope you had a wonderful day!

Me and the girls all have colds. Not too nasty, just enough to make you feel kinda blah. Cough, sore throat.

But in the good news department, I got a free ticket to join some friends at Yuk Yuk's tonight and mom said she'd watch the girls so I can go (DH is working). Fun!

QOD - best schwag EVER, hands down, have been the "medals" / finishing awards crafted by Kath, I feel extremely lucky to have 3 of them: one from Madison, one from OBX and one from Fools Run 50K

Strength training is done. Maybe I'll remember to work on core during the day here. I'm thinking that 5M should suffice on the TM later.

Bob - Glad your runs are returning to normal.

RiL - I snickered that your 'sleep in' time was 6:20. :)

Cranie - Joo are gonna rock TCM, chica! Positive thoughts!

Moonie / Bard - Wow - 18 months already? Time has flown! Yah to you both!

Clarebear (and Kath from last night) dankies for the brrf-day wishes. Belated ones still make me smile!

Qod: I gotta agree - the Flying Pig schwag was way cool. The backpack sealed the deal, there.

QOD - I did a 5 mile Valentine's Day run where you are handed a bag of chocolate as you finish. One of the sponsors was Cabot cheese, so it was also nice to get a bowl of cheddar soup after finishing. Need to do that one again - really a beautiful race. On the negative side, when I did the 8K at Philly, the only schwag was a crappy heather grey t shirt.

Mini rant - DS is doing a play that is a pretty far trip from our house (relatively, ~30 miles each way). The director keeps jacking around the rehearsal schedule. We had one day last week where DS had rehearsal from 4-8. The plan was for my wife to drop him off, and I would go after work to pick him up. My wife dropped him off, and goes home. About 15 minutes later, we get a call that he is done and needs to be picked up. Of the 30 miles, about 15 of them are on rural roads, so its a ~45 minute trip. Now tomorrow, he was scheduled for 10-6. That worked out well - the activities that DD and DS#2 have don't conflict with any of those times, and DW and I have a date night planned, 7 PM reservations at a local favorite restaurant. Well, now we get an email that is has been changed to 12-8. So, DW will try and change our reservation, and our other kids need to be picked up from their activities at noon. Get organized people!!!!!

I forgot one other. At The Flying Feather 4 miler that Joe and I did last Thanksgiving, we each scored a bottle of wine. He comes in too late this year to run it, but also late enough that I think I can and still have time to shower before I pick him up.

Hi all - last day of super-chaos at work (it's all about getting in the numbers before close of fiscal year) before it shifts into just mere chaos.

Got in 4.5 mi in just about the opposite of the weather the previous day (from 90 with no clouds or wind, to overcast low 60s and a steady 15-20 mph westerly wind)

Was it your birthday yesterday Ailarie? Well, dangit, happy belated to you - I hope you get to celebrate it fine fashion this weekend. And sounds like fun weekends are in store for both of you Wippy & Maria

Got to finally see Craney in the video last night...which reminds me, mucho mojo to our TCM crew and anyone toeing the line Saturday or Sunday.

QOD - well, aside from Kath's awesome medals, I'd have to say the coolest schwag I've gotten was the Flying Pig Backpack and the Napa Valley Marathon duffel bag (which has gotten a lot of use on my travels). The coolest race-given medal might still be for my first marathon in San Francisco - you can use it as a drink coaster if you'd like.

Perhaps the worse schwag (can't remember the race) was one that had a ton of paper and postcard-style promo materials, a few coupons, and a couple of food samples (my question was why bother?)

QOD:

for food/finish:

fargo has had chocolate milk and cookie dough at the end - YUM

Red white and boom HM has bomb pops (it was 90 out..perfect)

TCM has broth soup :)

Schwag - best (besides kath's stuff) - probably the race I just did - women run the cities 10 miler. NICE shirt (albeit not s SNUG fit like they advertised), fun arm warmers, cookies, kettle corn at the end plus a ton of other food. Entry fee was only 50 when I registered (a week before). not bad

worst.....hmmmm....dunno

Oh - another QOD answer. not as in stuff to take home, but consumables. An event I run each year in December offers hot (spiced) apple cider and beef stew at the finish area. Sadly, as they run the 5k first (start to finish) before the 8K even starts (which I do), by the time I am done, the stew is long gone. However, the hot apple cider hits the spot. Last year I even brought my own travel cup/mug, and asked if there was enough where I could take some to go. (if there wasn't - no biggie, I'd stick with the little styrofoam cup and be happy). Luckily, they pointed to many gallon jugs of unopened cider, which they had in addition to this huge kettle over a fire, and said that they had plenty. Considering that not many runners were left at that point, I happily got a full cup! Rawr.
